Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Curiosity certainly doesn't kill Dewey the cat--it helps his library win first prize in a tree-decorating contest. So goes this schmaltzy holiday anecdote starring the feline mascot of an Iowa library, first made famous in retired librarian Myron's bestselling Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World. Dewey's antics exploring paper bags, tree decorations, and bright red yarn entertain staff and patrons alike, as seen in James's quaint, slightly retro illustrations (is that a card catalogue in the children's room?!). Ages 3–6. (Oct.)
School Library Journal
K-Gr 3—It's Dewey's first Christmas. The library cat has no idea what he's in for, but he sure loves all those decorations and fake tree branches. Inspired by a true story, Dewey's antics are portrayed with authentic liveliness in James's digitally painted artwork, which looks like watercolor and ink. This well-paced, engaging story is a standout among picture books featuring library settings, and it is sure to enhance holiday-themed programs.—Linda Israelson, Los Angeles Public Library

A wonderful story----a perfect Christmas gift

This book is a perfect way to introduce children to the story of Dewey, a cat who lived in a library. The illustrations are beautiful and if your child is too young to read, the pictures tell the story. All children will delight in the antics of Dewey as he celebrates his first Christmas in the library. I am an adult and I bought this book for myself so I can recommend it for adults as well as children.

    Adorable Christmas story!

The younger students loved this Read to Me book. They laughed out loud at some of Dewey's antics in the book. Very cute story!
