Overview

She hunts the realm’s most dangerous game.

Her fees are exorbitant.

She’s worth every coin she receives.

Or is she?

Magiere has earned a reputation as the most formidable vampire slayer in the land. Villagers far and wide welcome her with both awe and disdain—grateful to her for ridding their towns of the undead menace, but finding themselves made poorer for their salvation. Magiere knows she’s dealing with simple folk, who only wish to have their superstitions silenced, and sees nothing wrong with exploiting them for profit.

Now, tired of the game, Magiere and her partner, the half-elf Leesil, are ready to hang up their weapons and settle down in a place they can finally call home. But their newfound peace will not last—for Magiere has come to the attention of a trio of powerful and dangerous vampires who know her true identity—and fear the birthright that flows through her veins. And they will stop at nothing to keep Magiere from fulfilling her destiny.

KLIATT
Magiere is a professional charlatan, bilking superstitious villagers by pretending to slay vampires. But she and her half-elven partner have been on the road a long time, and she wants to retire to coastal Miiska. How was she to know that the town was actually the home of three powerful, dangerous, very real vampires? And while she doesn't believe in them, they believe in her and fear her. When mysterious attacks begin, the only one who can help her is Welstiel, a mysterious man who calls her a "dhampir," a half-vampire and hunter of the undead. Magiere must grow into this new role, and fast: her life and the lives of those she loves depend on it. This Buffy-in-medieval-Transylvania novel is fast moving and fun, and belongs in all fantasy collections. Newly discovered super series

I began by buying book 4 of this series as used. Little did I know at the time that is was an 8 book series. I was hooked! I had to read the 1st book Dhamphir. It was great! The story line made sense and the plot thickens with more than one story line being told. But all are inter mingled to become one great tale. I can see this book series as a mini series on tv or a weekly show like Vampire Diaries. I have now read the second and can't wait to see what happens in the third. The only problem I have had is locating this series in hardcover. I highly recommend the Noble Dead Series for anyone interested in Vampire Reads and Great Fiction.

Like Neo would say it.....Whoa...(sry, could resist)

That was wicked awesome. I've had bad experiences from vampire books after reading one book since i thought i'd be into it. It was pretty gross, romantically that is. but this was sooo awesome. Magiere kicks butt, and Leesil is hilarious. My friends and I see him as the drunk version of Legolas. All the characters were great and it's wicked when Magiere goes all excorist on em'. Heh heh, yes, I have a sick mind. So sue me. And the ending you have to love. it pretty much screams,'Yup, sequel, thats right!' Oh, puh-lease, like the line 'We shall meet again' doesnt hint anything. And if there isnt a sequel.....someone.....must......pay....*shrug* Or I'll just find some other series to get into. Either works.

I enjoyed Dhampir enough that I bought the next two books and will continue with the series. The characters are unique and interesting -- not necessarily likeable, but understandable and compelling. The background and world building was intriguing, and made me want to know more. There is little romance, but the relationship between Magiere and Leesil is handled in a believable and grow-up way -- they don't act like a couple of twelve year olds with their first crush.

My only problem with the book was the multiple POVs. Too much time was spent with secondary characters, learning their back stories, and it didn't really further the plot, and in some cases it actually slowed down the action. If you can get over this small obstacle, the shifting POVs is handled much better in the next two books. Not quite as much time is spent with scenes that don't further the plot.

I do recommend this as a solid first book, and as a way to get into the rest of the series, which gets better.

    I hated it

I love anything that is remotely supernatural! I love it all, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, you name it...but this book did not capture my attention one bit. Espescially after many other series I have read, I wasn't impressed.

    enjoyable read

I was so hoping for an interesting vampyre series that was quick reading, could lose myself in and not be able to put it down. I WAS NOT disappointed. I have already ordered #2 and #3....I have had three kindles and love them......I also don't understand why the B & N ebooks are soooo expensive. I guess they are afraid they'll end up like Borders....

    Fantastic series

This review is about the entire "Noble Dead Series" - excellent and exciting read. I would recommend to all who enjoy science fiction/fantasy. Also will read again. I completed Series 1 and the first 2 books in Series 2. Am waiting impatiently for book 3 in Series 2. They can't come fast enough.

    Addictive

I fell in love with this series from the first few chapters. These books are completely addictive. The writing is amazing, it is almost like a movie, you see marg fighting and then it flips and chap wakes up and hears something and runs over and he sees marg fighting a vampire. That kind of writing keeps you involved in the story line. These books are amazing and I would recommend them to anyone that is into vampires, action, and just a great read

    Nice surprise

I've never been a big vampire reader, but I enjoyed this book and the 5 others in this series. I read them all...as soon as possible. It has love, adventure, violence and it even hits racism. A great read!

    A disappointment

I usually enjoy vampire themed books, and this one caught my eye in the bookstore. I started reading the first chapter, and it caught my attention instantly so I bought it. Unfortunately, after the first chapter it goes downhill fast...it has stock characters and plot, lacking the originality the first chapter had. I ALWAYS finish a book, but I couldn't finish this one. I read about four more chapters before giving up.

    OMG :D

This is an extremely good book! I have gotten in trouble a lot cus i can't stop reading it. The characters are very complex. I especially like Magiere and Rashed. There isn't anything that i would change in this book. If someone like a really good director made this into a movie i'd be the first in line!

I read this book in three hours, which is pretty good for me, I was almost late going to work, because I just had to finish it, and then after I got off work, I went to Barnes & Noble and bought all but the last book which they didn't have,I've a ready read most of the second book and can say I never thought that I would read a vampire book and I looked around for like two hours in the store looking for something good. I am extremely happy that I picked up this book, and I am suprised that it was so good and that it was such a page turner!!! Any one that has a great imagination and can get lost in a fantasy world should read this book!
