Barbara Quinn, MS, RD, CDE, developed all of the menus exclusively for The Diabetes DTOUR Diet. She is a full-time clinical dietitian and certified diabetes educator for the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula in Monterey, California.

Francine R. Kaufman, MD, the medical advisor for The Diabetes DTOUR Diet, currently serves as head of the Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism at the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. My husband was diagnosed with Pre-Diabetes, and he is a heart patient, having previously had open heart surgery. He was also slightly overweight. The diagnosis meant that we had a very pressing reason to change when and what he eats and to determine the proper amounts of healthy foods to consume. This plan seems to parallel the NutriSystem Diabetes diet, which is where my husband started. Now he's transitioned to normal food, which is what this diet uses. The book contains lots of recipes and lots of information that explains why the authors make the recommendations that they put forth. I keep going back and reading sections over and over because I come away with something new each time. The author stresses that even small changes are good and help you to move in the right direction. Here, we found a diet that really works. After a few months, my husband has lost over 14 pounds, and he's continuing to lose. Some of his slacks have become rather loose at the waist. The book teaches you the right amount to eat, and you will find that you will tend to keep healthy foods in the house - prompting you to fix another recipe that takes advantage of the things you already have on hand. I bought three books on the subject of a diet for Diabetes, and I use this book the most. The only criticism I have is that I think it could have a more extensive index. But that would keep me from digging into the book, and invariably, each time I do so, I learn something new.
