Overview

Since the dawn of time, the Eternal Conflict has raged between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. If the Prophecy of the End Days holds true, mankind will soon find itself trapped in the middle of this never-ending war.

Here renowned scholar Deckard Cain has combined excerpts, illustrations, and firsthand knowledge to pen a history of the world of Sanctuary. His writings depict the insidious Prime Evils (Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal), shed light on Tyrael and the other archangels of the Angiris Council, and illuminate humanity's hope and enduring heroism in the face of overwhelming terror. Revealed also are the untold mysteries, from the origins of mortals and the secrets of the nephalem to the gathering darkness of the End of Days. So take heed, dear reader, and bear witness to the truths that lie within.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Insight did an outrageous work with this book; it’s actually one of the prettiest looking videogame books I’ve ever opened. From start to finish the book will offer information about the world of Sanctuary, its complete history, biographies from the people that live in it, and the demons that threaten it. To accompany every biography, there is a gorgeous illustration made by Blizzard. Insight’s website doesn’t do justice to this book; every page looks quite different to what it looks like in the site. It has been a completely different experience from what I was expecting.

Insight managed to capture the dark atmosphere of the series in this 147 page book, and will give new players and fans of the series an amazing source for Diablo’s story. I definitely recommend this book for every single fan of the Diablo series, you will not regret spending your cash in it, and even if you are not a fan of the series, you should check what this book has to offer. —Just Push Start

    fantastic book

If your a Diablo fan, this is a must have. It tells you so much about the series, and describes some upcoming information for Diablo III. It also opens up quite a few possibilities for how things could turn out in the third game, and makes you ache for it's release to see what happens. Another big pro to buying this book for me was that it's told in the perspective of Deckard Cain, and contains many side notes by him. I've read all the other Diablo books, but if you do not feel like reading them, this contains a basic overview of the entire book series. Also, this looks amazing, and has texture to the cover, which makes it feel as if your reading a book from a long time ago as well.

    Highly Recommended for Diablo Fans

The first thing that jumped out at me was the slightly embossed hardcover and the roughly cut outer edges of each page. The construction of the book is specifically done to capture the feeling of holding an old tome rather than a mass printed modern book.

The content's quality is also superb, written from the point of view of Deckard Cain to his "niece" Leah. The book's content serves as an excellent primer for both old and new players of the video game. The book covers abridged details of the plots of the first two games, the various spin-off novels, answers several lingering questions, and preps the reader with a foundation of new information which helps set the stage for the upcoming Diablo III. All the while remaining in character to the point of view of Deckard Cain, the franchises beloved historian.
