Diagnosis Death (Prescription for Trouble Series #3) [NOOK Book]

Grabbed this by accident--so glad I did!

I don't like Christian fiction and avoid it at all costs. I must also admit I have never read Christian fiction before I grabbed this book based solely on it being a medical thiller/mystery. I realized what I had done when every secondary character in the book told the main character "I will pray for you" within the first 25 pages. I was so convinced the story would be sappy and completey unpalatable. I was so wrong. I must say I thought this story was amazing! The characters were well-rounded, imperfect and real! My impression of what Christian fiction must be was shattered by the edge of my seat thiller Dianosis Death is. I became engrossed in each character. The story easily could be taking place anywhere and I was easily able to empathize with the characters. I found the internal dialogue the main character was forced to have to be very believable. A wonderful read.

Keept my interest until the end

I enjoyed the book and the biblical references. It was nice to read a "clean" mystery.

Least fave in series

There were elements to this story that I liked. For example, the author brought back Cathy Sewell and Will Kennedy so we could catch up on them since "Code Blue". Nice to read of their relationship progressing and including a baby. The author weaved that into the plot seamlessly and I didn't feel like this was Cathy and Will's story and not Elena's. What I didn't like was the heavy-handed Christian posturing - particularly surrounding the character, Frank. Also, in each book Dr. Mabry has stuck to a formula of 2 possible suitors for each of the heroines. I noticed it in "Code Blue" and "Medical Error" - not a big deal, but in this 3rd novel in the series it became repetitive and overdone. Overall, the plot was believable and the pace was good. Not the best in the series for me as mentioned, but solid writing all the same.

Great book, great writing, totally didn't see the end coming. This series is really good, Love Richard Mabry's writing. If you love a mystery, you will love this book. His writing is clean, no offensive stuff, very hard to find now-a-days.!

A Great Novel

I foubd Diagnosis Death to be an excellent medical thriller! I loved the character Elena. She just kept going no matter what. I also liked David, Cathy and Will. A few reviews concentrated a lot about the Christian aspect of the book. I don't feel it took away from the book in any way. There was not that much of it, and what there was, was good for the plot. This author did a great job developing all the characters. I loved the plot, well thought out, a real page turner most of the time. Keeps u guessing to the end. If u love medical thrillers, I highly recommend this book. Good job author! Vallie

fun and different

This book was fun to read and a nice change from the normal story line. I like this whole series. I love the technical jargon since I am in the science field.

Did she turn off the life support or not?

An excellent medical mystery. The continuation of the series but it stands alone without any confusion whatsoever. It would be horrible and confusing to find yourself in Elena's position. Accused of turning off the life support for your husband and another patient, being pretty sure you didn't, but not knowing for sure. The author has presented the emotional wringing, exhaustion, and trepidation in what I believe to be an authentic way. Elena's struggle with moving to a new town with new people and hospital rules but bringing the uncertainty and suspicions with her allows for a melodramatic mystery and a great twist in the mystery because who would be able to follow her? Of course, I had my suspicions and one was correct but the other totally wrong. I like when that happens, it makes reading the book right to end enjoyable and interesting.

Highly Recommend

I received this book on Friday and finished it on Saturday...we did have a Birthday party here this weekend!
It will keep your nose in the book....wishing there were more hours in the day! I really enjoyed it.

Dr Elena Gardner has had a horrific year, with the death of her husband Mark. She is just about to finish medical school, when another patient presents with the same illness that took her husband. When this patient is found dead, the finger is pointing at Elena. She is offered an early end to her studies and accepts a job Dainger, TX..about 2 hours from Dallas.

The scary things that happen to her...the phone call, people following, the peeping. Enough to drive you over the deep end.

God had a wonderful way of putting the right people in her path. Love that she ended up living with the Kennedy's, and her wonderful Godly friend David. I love that there is an Epilogue at the end of this book, I really appreciate it when an author provides the update.

The Series Just Keeps Getting Better and Better!!!

Dr. Mabry has done it again with "Diagnosis Death"! I swear with each book in the series, they just get better and better!! I love Dr. Mabry's prose and style. He creates characters that are real and what I find most fascinating is that he writes from a woman's point of view (and does it very well I may add).

"Diagnosis Death" centers around a young doctor, Dr. Elena Gardner, who's training is just about to complete when a patient in a coma suspiciously dies. She has been rumored to have "helped" her husband who was also in the same situation a few months before and is now under suspicion for this death as well. She knows she didn't do it - or at least cannot remember doing it, and needs to find out the truth. This story is full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing all the way to the end!! Truly a page-turner, this book kept on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next.

"Diagnosis Death" is the third novel of the series, and it was said to be the last. I have since heard that Dr. Mabry has signed on to do a fourth book called "Lethal Remedy" that is due out in September. To say that I'm excited with this news is a tremendous understatement!

If you love medical thrillers, mysteries - especially cozy mysteries, then you'll love Dr. Mabry's books. Make sure to mark you calendar for the release of this exciting book in April 2011. While you are waiting, treat yourself and pick up the first two in the series , "Code Blue" and "Medical Error" - you won't regret it!

Not bad

A Christian, medical, romance, who would of thought it? A little over 200 pages. The proofing was good. The plot was interesting. The heroine was always looking to a man to rescue her. Any available man and then she worried she was leading the guy on. Duh! She used the my husband just died card a few times too often to get out of trouble. She also seemed too needy and not smart enough to be a doctor. The preachiness was not over whelming and for a while I thought one of the doctors was the murderer. It surprized me whodunit. Which was very nice. No sex, no gore, the murder act was mentioned in generic terms, so those fourteen and up could read this book.

I just finished this book and I must say that I loved it!

Richard Mabry is a phenomenal author and his medical stories are so real and it's like his stories are hypnotic.

It makes you wonder if it could happen for real. I was happy to read it and it tied the 1st novel back to it. At the end of the first one, I wondered what would happy between Will and Cathy down the road and this book gave me that information or closure so to speak.
