Overview

A concise, well-written text that teaches the reader how to diagnose "invisible" systemic disorders from the highly visible signs that show up on the patient's skin. The book splits skin diseases into two basic categories, primary skin disorders, such as eczema and psoriasis; and skin manifestations of disorders of other systems, such as the characteristic skin of chronic renal failure.

The book contains color illustrations.

Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: James J. Foody, MD (Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine)
Description: This is a paperback color atlas of skin manifestations of many common medical illnesses.
Purpose: The authors attempt to present a book to help physicians in practice find the cause of skin signs. Approaching skin signs from this direction is quite valuable, and the authors succeed in their attempt.
Audience: The practicing clinician is the intended reader.
Features: This atlas contains hundreds of high quality color photographs of lesions of the skin, nails, and mucous membranes. The index is rich and practical, well designed for the clinician. There are no references.
Assessment: Recognition of skin signs is extremely important for clinical practice. Yet, most reference books are organized around the illness or affected organ system. Of course, if the practitioner already knows the diagnosis, there is little need for an atlas. The authors organized this book from the practical perspective of a clinician who finds a skin abnormality and wants to know its significance. Consequently, this book, with its exquisite pictures, pithy descriptions, and practical organization, is a remarkable contribution for the clinician.
