Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Travis Scott Graham, MD (University of Colorado Health Sciences Center)
Description: This fifth volume in the diagnostic imaging series comprehensively covers abdominal imaging and follows the format of prior volumes - it is packed with graphics and images and includes many innovative features unique to the series.
Purpose: The author sought to provide a "readable reference" for radiology residents and practicing physicians in the arena of abdominal imaging. These are worthy objectives and they were met exceedingly well.
Audience: According to the author, this book was written for radiology residents and practicing physicians. The author reaches his target audience, but I hope that the term "practicing physicians" was used in a very broad sense. This book is not only useful for attending radiologists, but also is a great reference for our clinical colleagues.
Features: Keeping in style with the other volumes in the series, this book is heavy on graphics and images...a welcome trend in our visually oriented field. I just love the way this book is laid out! The Key Facts section is particularly helpful and the Best Diagnostic Clue is a great way to present the classic features of any disease entity. The illustrated differential diagnosis section and the image gallery are features every radiology resident and practicing physician has been longing for in a text for some time.
Assessment: This is one of those "must have" books. In fact, I think it is one that every radiology resident should have from the beginning...it may be the only abdominal imaging book you'll ever need throughout your training. Although it is quite expensive, probably because of the number of graphics and images, it is well worth it.
From the Publisher
"I would recommend this textbook to any radiologist who is involved in general radiology or abdominal diseases, from beginning residents to experienced private practitioners or academic subspecialists."
—Radiology

"Federle (radiology, U. of Pittsburgh Medical Center) headed a roster comprising seven other contributers who eagerly sought out the best cases to include in this comprehensive text. Like other works prepared for this series, the text and images were entered into the Amirsys authoring tool, which organized the content in a rational way, providing uniformity and consistency in the final presentation - a difficult goal to achieve in multi-authored texts using conventional means." (SciTech, Vol.29, No.4, December 2005)
