Overview

Seals & Crofts' highest-charting album, Diamond Girl went up to number four on the strength of its Top Ten title cut and the follow-up, "We May Never Pass This Way (Again)." A well-produced collection of songs ranging from the personal to the spiritual, this LP captured the twosome in their commercial and artistic prime. "Ruby Jean and Billie Lee" is an attractive autobiographical ballad written to the duo's wives. "Nine Houses" and "Intone My Servant" invoke the religious faith so important to them that they would stay after concert performances to share it with those who cared to listen. "Standin' on a Mountain Top" is a flashback from their early-'60s days with the Champs, and "Dust on My Saddle" is a cowboy story also written by Seals in the '60s. Louie Shelton's production is impressive throughout, making Diamond Girl an appealing collection of radio-friendly '70s soft rock.

While hearing this beautiful album again, released for the first time on CD, each selection brings back so many memories and emotions. Seals and Crofts wrote some of the most lyrically eloquent and spiritually moving songs of the 70's, and this album proves that. Each track, from the popular 'Diamond Girl' and 'We May Never Pass This Way (Again)', to 'Ruby Jean and Billie Lee' (a beautiful song written for their wives), 'Jessica' and (my personal favorite) 'Nine Houses' reinforces the fact that Seals and Crofts' music is as meaningful and touching today as it was in 1973. Flashback Records took great care of the reproduction of this fine recording. The CD quality and sound is excellent! I owned a copy of this album on vinyl as a child, and lost it along the way. I played 'Nine Houses' so much that I wore that part of the album out! A true thrill and joy to hear this album again after so many years. I have looked for this on CD for years, and did not know it was available. When I found it by accident, I shed a tear.

Another nice album that brings back the memories. Two big hits with the title track and "We may never pass this way again". Very enjoyable.
