RESULTS FROM APPLICATION:

"I suffered for years, ever since I was a kid, from sinus pressure. It would get so bad, I couldn't even bend over to pick up a pencil!

"And as a result, I'd have migraine headaches.

"Dianetics handled the source of my headaches - the reactive mind.

"I can't explain the feeling that I had at that time. The pressure just blew. I could feel it come off my face and it was such a relief.

"I walked around for months thinking, 'Okay, when is it going to come back?

When is it going to start?' It never did. It was just gone."

- K. F.

"My marriage was headed for divorce. And even though we loved each other, something had come between us and we didn't know what it was.

"We tried everything. We went to a marriage counselor, we even went to a psychiatrist and the end result was we still were headed for divorce.

"So just when I was about to file the final papers, a close friend of ours insisted, absolutely insisted, that we try Dianetics.

"And that was when we knew what had come between us - it was the reactive mind.

"So not only did Dianetics give us the tools to save and rebuild our marriage, but we love each other more today than the day we got married."

C. L.

"Dianetics enabled me to realize my potentials and find the success I had always sought."

K.B., Top Investment Counselor

"When I was 14 my life  became an uphill struggle.  A severe injury left me with a crippling back pain 24 hours a day.  I was told I would require treatment for the rest of my life and I wold have to live with the pain.  Over the next 12 years, I Iooked everywhere for a solution.  I even became a Doctor  of Chiropractic, but still nothing could make the pain stop.   Finally, I tried Dianetics, and I found that the pain was being caused by the reactive mind.  Within a few hours I stood up and, for the first time in 12 years, the pain was gone.   Dianetics has the answers!"

S.P., Doctor of Chiropractic

"I had a terrible accident and fractured my neck, and as a result was in a terrific amount of pain.  The doctors did everything that they could to try and handle it, and while my neck did heal, the pain persisted.  I began to take drugs to suppress the pain, and I became hooked on drugs.   That was the end of my motorcycle racing career.

"Then I found Dianetics and I found that the pain was in fact  coming from the reactive mind, because Dianetics handled it.  And I was no longer hooked on drugs when the pain was gone.

"I started racing motorcycles again - this was ten years after the accident - and I went right to the top in racing motorcycles here in the United States.  Then I began training others and in fact I've trained ten of the last twelve national superbike champions.  None of this would ever have happened it it wasn't for Dianetics."

K.C., Champion Motorcycle Racing Instructor

BOOK REVIEWDianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health

by L. Ron Hubbard

A hidden part of the human mind is at the root of our problems of stress, unhappiness, self-doubt and paralyzing anxiety, said the author of Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health.

Author L. Ron Hubbard said past painful experiences are stored as memories just below the level of conscious thought in what he called the “reactive mind,” where they can be triggered in the present to work destructively against you. It works like this: through years of research on hundreds of cases, Hubbard discovered two parts to the human mind. First there is the analytical mind, the mind that rationalizes, calculates, dreams, solves and creates. This is the part of the mind that we want to be working at 100% capacity, 100% of the time. What hinders achieving this 100% level of operation is called the reactive mind.

The reactive mind is the subconscious part of our mind that acts without our permission. It takes control on a stimulus-response basis, acting as a self-defense mechanism gone awry. The reactive mind thinks in identities, that is to say it cannot differentiate between a current situation and a past painful experience. It collapses the two, giving us commands to operate off of that have little or no basis in current reality.

The analytical mind goes through existence recording diligently until something happens that causes the reactive mind to take over. The cause could be an accident, heavy drowsiness, emotional shock or many other combinations of painful experiences. Suddenly the reactive mind begins recording everything that is occurring around you during the painful incident: all sounds, scents, sights and feelings.

Later in life, when you encounter a situation similar to the original recording made, the reactive mind once again takes over and begins to feed you data about how to act and respond — based on information from a totally different incident in the past!

In the opening pages of Dianetics, L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “Dianetics is no solemn adventure. For all that it has to do with suffering and loss, its end is always laughter, so foolish, so misinterpreted were the things which caused the woe.”

Herein lies the crux of Dianetics’ success. According to Dianetics practitioners, those things that hold you back, the feeling that you just can’t shake, the mistakes that you can’t help but make again and again — the simple reasons for these and answers to many other mysteries about yourself and your mind can be discovered through the use of Dianetics technology. Through years of research Hubbard discovered the source of personal stress, anxiety and depression and then developed carefully tested procedures to desensitize and erase the negative content stored in the reactive mind — thus freeing up your ability to act solely in the here and now and off of good data stored in the analytical mind, free from the chains of stress.

In reality, the only way to realize Dianetics’ workability is to use it — pair up with someone and apply the techniques. It’s easy. Hubbard’s bestseller has helped millions, and it should be read and used by all who are searching for a true understanding of the mind and a solution to such problems as self-doubt, stress, anxiety and depression. Dianetics is available in bookstores everywhere or visit www.dianetics.org for more information.

Erich Fromm
Hubbard's book can hardly be taken seriously as a scientific contribution to the science of Man but it must be taken seriously as a symptom of a dangerous trend. Were it only an oversimplified popularization of early Freudian theories it would be harmless. But Dianetics is expressive of a spirit which is exactly the opposite of Freud's teachings.... But perhaps the most unfortunate element in Dianetics is the way it is written. The mixture of some oversimplified truths, half truths and plain absurdities, the propagandistic technique of impressing the reader with the greatness, infallibility and newness of the author's system, the promise of unheard of results attained by the simple means of following Dianetics is a technique which has had most unfortunate results in the fields of patent medicines and politics; applied to psychology and psychiatry it will not be less harmful.
The New York Herald Tribune Book Review, July 1950
Scientific American
This volume probably contains more promises and less evidence per page than has any publication since the invention of printing. Briefly, its thesis is that man is intrinsically good, has a perfect memory for every event of his life, and is a good deal more intelligent than he appears to be. However, something called the engram prevents these characteristics from being realized in man's behavior.... By a process called dianetic revery, which resembles hypnosis and which may apparently be practiced by anyone trained in dianetics, these engrams may be recalled. Once thoroughly recalled, they are "refiled," and the patient becomes a "clear".... The system is presented without qualification and without evidence.

New York Post
The growing interest in mental self-improvement is quickly evident when one looks at the major best-seller lists across the country. Week after week, for example Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health by L. Ron Hubbard hits most of these lists with steadfast regularity. First published in 1950, when it quickly rose high onto The New York Times and other best-seller lists, the book has actually made publishing history by again returning to The New York Times list 36 years later.

While it is true that Dianetics has become the self-improvement classic, with over 8 million copies sold internationally, there can be little doubt what it has to offer is just what people are now looking for in ever increasing numbers. Reducing stress, achieving goals, improving relationships and striving to live up to one's full potential is definitely the in thing.

The importance of Dianetics, in this reviewer's judgement, is that it so clearly illustrates the most common fallacy of our time in regard to psychological ills. This is the fallacy of trying to construct a simple science of human behavior based upon mathematics and using for its models the physical sciences and the machine... ...Books like this do harm by their grandiose promises to troubled persons and by their oversimplification of human psychological problems.

Meet the Author

L. Ron Hubbard

There are only two tests of a life well lived L. Ron Hubbard once remarked: Did one do as one intended? And were people glad one lived? In testament to the first stands the full body of his life’s work, including some 12,000 writings and 3,000 tape-recorded lectures of Dianetics and Scientology.   In evidence of the second are the hundreds of millions of individuals whose lives have been demonstrably bettered because he lived. They are the more than 28 million students now reading superlatively owing to L. Ron Hubbard’s educational discoveries; they are the millions of men and women freed from substance abuse through L. Ron Hubbard’s breakthroughs in drug rehabilitation; they are the near 100 million who have been touched by his nonreligious moral code: and they are the many millions more who hold his work to be the spiritual cornerstone of their lives.

Although best known for Dianetics and Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard cannot be so simply categorized. If nothing else, his life was too varied, his influence too broad. There are tribesmen in Southern Africa, for example, who know nothing of Dianetics and Scientology, but they know L. Ron Hubbard the educator.  Likewise, there are factory workers in Albania who know him only for his administrative discoveries; children in China who know him only as the author of their moral code, and readers in dozens of languages who know him only for his novels. So, no, L. Ron Hubbard is not an easy man to categorize and certainly does not fit popular misconceptions of “religious founder” as an aloof and contemplative figure. Yet the more one comes to know this man and his achievements, the more one comes to realize he was precisely the sort of person to have brought us Scientology, the only major religion to have been founded in the twentieth century.

What Scientology offers is likewise what one would expect of a man such as  L. Ron Hubbard. For not only does it provide a fully unique approach to our most fundamental questions—Who are we? From where did we come and what is our destiny? But it further provides an equally unique technology for greater spiritual awareness. So how would we expect to characterize the founder of such a religion? Clearly, he would have to be larger than life, attracted to people, liked by people, dynamic, charismatic and immensely capable in a dozen fields—all exactly L. Ron Hubbard.

The fact is, if Mr. Hubbard had stopped after only one of his many accomplishments he would still be celebrated today. For example, with 46 million works of fiction in circulation, including such monumental bestsellers as Battlefield Earth, Fear and the Mission Earth series, Mr. Hubbard is unquestionably one of the most acclaimed and widely read authors of all time. His novels have earned some of the world’s most prestigious literary awards, and he has very genuinely been described as “one of the most prolific and influential writers of the twentieth century.”

His earlier accomplishments are similarly impressive. As a barnstorming aviator through the 1930s he was known as “Flash” and broke local records for sustained glider flight. As a leader of expeditions, he is credited with conducting the first complete Puerto Rican mineralogical survey under United States protectorship and his navigational annotations still influence the maritime guides for British Columbia. His experimentation with early radio direction finding further became the basis for the Long Range Navigational system (Loran). And, as a lifelong photographer, his works have been displayed in galleries on two continents, with the definitive body of his photographs in traveling and permanent exhibits still drawing tens of thousands every year.

Among other avenues of research, Mr. Hubbard developed and codified an administrative technology that is utilized by more than 200,000 organizations worldwide, including multinational corporations, charitable bodies, political parties, schools, youth clubs and every imaginable small business. Likewise Mr. Hubbard’s internationally acclaimed educational methods are utilized by more than a hundred thousand educators, while his equally acclaimed drug rehabilitation program has proven at least five times more effective than similarly aimed programs.

Yet, however impressive these figures, no measure of L. Ron Hubbard is complete without some appreciation of what became his life’s work: Dianetics and Scientology.  The world’s most effective force for positive change, the Church of Scientology represents spiritual freedom for millions of people the world over. They come from every walk of life, every culture and every strata of society. Moreover, when one is speaking of L. Ron Hubbard’s discoveries relating to the human mind and spirit, one is ultimately speaking of the philosophic foundation of all he accomplished: better education, crime-free cities, drug-free campuses, stable and ethical organizations and cultural revitalization through the arts—all this and more is made possible because of the breakthroughs in Dianetics and Scientology.

Excerpt from Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health

Of what must a science of mind be composed?

1. An answer to the goal of thought.

2. A single source of all insanities, psychoses, neuroses,

compulsions, repressions and social derangements.

3. Invariant scientific evidence as to the basic nature and

functional background of the human mind.

4. Techniques (the art of application) by which the discovered

single source could be invariably cured, ruling out, of course,

the insanities of malformed, deleted or pathologically

injured brains or nervous systems and, particularly,

iatrogenic psychoses (those caused by doctors and involving

the destruction of the living brain itself).

5. Methods of prevention of mental derangement.

6. The cause and cure of all psychosomatic ills, which number,

some say, 70 percent of Man’s listed ailments.

Such a science would exceed the severest terms previously laid

down for it in any age, but any computation on the subject should

discover that a science of mind ought to be able to be and do just

these things.

A science of the mind, if it were truly worthy of that name, would

have to rank in experimental precision with physics and chemistry.

There could be no “special cases” to its laws. There could be no

recourse to Authority. The atom bomb bursts whether Einstein

gives it permission or not. Laws native to Nature regulate the

bursting of that bomb. Technicians, applying techniques derived

from discovered natural laws, can make one or a million atom bombs

all alike.

After the body of axioms and technique was organized and

working as a science of mind, in rank with the physical sciences,

it would be found to have points of agreement with almost every

school of thought about thought which had ever existed. This is

again a virtue and not a fault.

Simple though it is, Dianetics does and is these things:

1. It is an organized science of thought built on definite

axioms: statements of natural laws on the order of those

of the physical sciences.

2. It contains a therapeutic technique with which can

be treated all inorganic mental ills and all organic

psychosomatic ills, with assurance of complete cure in

unselected cases.

3. It produces a condition of ability and rationality for Man

well in advance of the current norm, enhancing rather

than destroying his vigor and personality.

4. Dianetics gives a complete insight into the full potentialities

of the mind, discovering them to be well in excess of past

supposition.

5. The basic nature of Man is discovered in Dianetics, rather

than hazarded or postulated, since that basic nature can

be brought into action in any individual completely. And

that basic nature is discovered to be good.

6. The single source of mental derangement is discovered

and demonstrated on a clinical or laboratory basis by

Dianetics.

7. The extent, storage capacity and recallability of the human

memory is finally established by Dianetics.

8. The full recording abilities of the mind are discovered by

Dianetics with the conclusion that they are quite dissimilar

to former suppositions.

9. Dianetics brings forth the non-germ theory of disease,

complementing biochemistry and Pasteur’s work on the

germ theory to embrace the field.

10. With Dianetics ends the “necessity” of destroying the

brain by shock or surgery to effect “tractability” in mental

patients and “adjust” them.

11. A workable explanation of the physiological effects of

drugs and endocrine substances exists in Dianetics and

many problems posed by endocrinology are answered.

12. Various educational, sociological, political, military and

other human studies are enhanced by Dianetics.

13. The field of cytology is aided by Dianetics, as well as other

fields of research.

This, then, is a skeletal sketch of what would be the scope of a

science of mind and of what is the scope of Dianetics

I first read Dianetics in 1977. I was 18 years old, on street drugs, no relationships, and really didn't know what I wanted in life. Dianetics helped me discover for myself WHY I felt that way and was having so much trouble. I used it and now I've been married 26 years, have two kids that are very clean, educated and productive in life on their own, and am very accomplished in my own career. It is very logical subject that explains alot and I highly recommend it to anyone who knows that they have more potential in life than they're currently living.

Unbelievable! This book has changed my life.

I read this book and started applying the procedure in the book and it totally changed my life. If you are stressed or depressed you don't have to take pills, you can simply apply the procedure in the book.

    Adding Common Sense to Dianetics

On my quest to find the truth as to why a lot of my friends are calling scientology a hoax and cult could be summed up in this book. By reading the book from front to back provided me with no positive results. I wasn't happier, I didn't do any better than usual at the workplace and I still have the same fun with the same friends. In retrospect, I'm actually mad that I wasted time to read this book which is a load of pseudo-science. I suggest to all who are interested in this book to stop what you're doing and change your life by asking for help from others. Your friends and family will help you because of the decency that exists in all human beings. Don't be suckered into buying something that shows no positive results and just use some common sense to enjoy life. It's really not that hard.

    I could not believe it

I thought of reading this book in order to find peace with myself, but as I got more into it, I felt like i was reading science fiction. This book reminds me of Heavens Gate Suicide Cult, in fact this my appear to be a cult like book too.

Finally, here we have a full explanation of the mind. I have searched through every major philosophy, religion, and belief system on Earth and I have never seen something that works as fast and as thoroughly as Dianetics. This is what people have been looking for for a very long time. The material in this book SOLVES the problems of the mind, permanently.

    I Also Recommend:

    Get the 60th Anniversary Edition!

OK, here's my review. I've actually read the book and used it. It is a manual that is meant to be used. Use it to help your friends and family. Joining organizations and such is not necessary. Just read the book, and use it to help your friends.

What's new in the new edition? Well, nothing! The publisher didn't change anything in the book itself other than typos and punctuation errors that were introduced by Hermitage House Publishers back in 1950. In comparing the original manuscript and putting those footnotes in the back of the book, enlarging and darkening the font size, it makes for a more comfortable read.

Dianetics is an alternative to psychology and outlines several basic things that can help a person help themselves (thus the phrase "self-help") as well as help others.

Among the chapters in this book we find the following: The Goal of Man; The Dynamic Principle of Existence; The Four Dynamics (a dynamic is a drive upon which life is compartmented); a descriptive graph of survival (which was interesting - I never knew survival was more than "just barely making it" until I read Hubbard's definition); and the discovery and complete anatomy of what Hubbard calls the "Reactive Mind", which commands one to act irrationally against their own wishes and goals. Since I have been known to act irrationally, it's good to see what's causing it and what to do about it.

It's a thick book, 491 pages of actual text, divided into Theory and Practical applications; a 5 page glossary of important terms; a chapter called Dianetics in the 21st Century that brings us up to date from those long-gone days of 1950 (the year Dianetics was published) which has reprints from the LA Star and The Daily News, which did news articles on Hubbard and Dianetics at that time. Lots of photos in this section, too.

It's interesting to see what their view was. And finally, an appendix that briefly lists other self-help books by Hubbard, which are all new 2008 editions!

Oh, and finally, finally, The Editor's Glossary, that gives dictionary definitions to English words as they were used in 1950 as well as specialized Dianetics terms, as they were used at that time of writing. This is real handy and makes reading the book that much more easily read.

It's tough for me not to write a long review on a book that is over 600 pages thick. It has every imaginable area of human relationships clearly delineated and how Dianetics can help problems associated with these: alcoholism, post partum depression, divorces, domestic violence and drug abuse amongst them.

So get this book but use Amazon's latest and greatest 2008 edition of the book, as I've described above. Remember, Dianetics is not Scientology and Dianetics is not a religion. It does not obligate anyone to just pick up a copy and read it. It is also in Tagalog, Spanish, French, German and a few other languages.

    Read this book.

May you never be the same again!

It all began back in 1938, when author, adventurer and philosopher L. Ron Hubbard discerned the Dynamic Principle of Existence: SURVIVE! After years of further research and testing, LRH penned Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health (1950) in just under three weeks of furious typing. This book will teach you about the anatomy of your mind, and how painful events from your past are actively working to keep you from reaching your full potential. Dianetic Auditing (spiritual counseling) is the most reinvigorating pursuit I have ever engaged in. My quality of life has improved, I am happier than I've ever been, and my reading and study skills have gone through the roof. Dianetics has the potential to change your life too; all you have to do is buy this book and READ. A study of this volume alone, without doing anything else, will turn you life around. Ron does his best to make what has previously been an impenetrable subject (the human mind) decipherable by writing a book the layman can understand, but there are a number of terms you will need to learn (a glossary is provided in the back of the book) to really get the most out of it. It is TOTALLY worth the time and effort. This book has helped me, and I know it will help you. It has REVOLUTIONIZED the way I live my life! Enjoy the adventure!

    Beware!

Before you buy this book and fund Scientology, please just google: David Miscavige. Or look him up on youtube and see what you get. It's a lot of awful abuse of people and testimony of ruined lives.

This guy leads the Church of Scientology and he's a bad, bad guy. Don't buy this book, please.
