Dichotomy A

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Lisa Zhito
Nashville's homegrown hip-hop duo have been trying to burst onto the world stage for over a decade. They made some major strides with 2002's Art of Translation, and the Dichotomy projects (A ships in June, followed by volume B in November) could make Bonafide and Coffee household names. "Smooth" aptly describes project A, its hip-hop rhythms tempered by R&B-inspired vocals and laid-back beats. While at times this urban ease makes the tracks bleed into one another, there are many standouts here. Among them are the jazz-inflected "Pardon Me Yo," where a soft, echoing horn gives the backing track an unusually cosmopolitan feel. The R&B tone of "Get Down" makes things...

The R&B tone of "Get Down" makes things decidedly sultry, while "Blowin' Your Mind" borders on '70s-style Motown. The nice 'n' easy beats mean there are few real dance tracks, but things get hopping on the closer, "Sunshine," which offers infectious world-beat grooves. If Grits are determined to make a big name for themselves, Dichotomy A could be the collection to do it

    Their best yet

Grits went above and beyond to make this their best CD yet. It's inspirational and entertaining. It also gets me excited and waiting for their next CD Dichotomy B. I think this is just the beginning for them.

    More GRITS Hits!

Dichotomy A is a superb effort by Coffee and Bonafide. Tracks such as Bobbin' Bouncin', Sunshine, Gutter Boy, and Hittin' Curves really make this CD worthwhile. As a bonus, if you put the disk in your computer, it will display GRITS' music video for Hittin' Curves. I will say, however, that the album does feel slightly underproduced and hurried, like they have to get it done quickly to prepare for Dichotomy B. Really, with just a little more work, this album would be perfect.

A very worth follow up to The Art of Translation!!!

Grits I believe is the best Christian Hip-Hop out there. Dichotomy A continues to back my decision because this cd has mainstream success written all over it. The production overall is awesome and in my opinion exceeds even most secular Hip-Hop. Everything on this CD is innovative and is musically appealing, even for someone who normally isnt into Hip-Hop. Dichotomy cannot be overlooked by anyone because there is somethin on that CD for everyone. Hopefully B will be just as good!!
