Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
The family that taught a generation to read returns with a trio of books, originally published as New Basic Readers, in one paper-over-board volume: The World of Dick and Jane and Friends. "Guess Who," "The New We Come and Go" and "The New We Look and See" each contain dozens of the familiar short stories, paired with their original cherubic 1950s illustrations. Dick and Jane: Fun Wherever We Are features material from "Now We Read" and "The New Guess Who" (both 1965). Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

    You need this book!

My son is so proud of himself for reading a chapter book! He is finishing kindergarten and is right at his age for reading. Before this he was reading short little phonics books, but I realized that he was zipping through those, so I picked up this. I like that it gets progressively harder as it goes. He read the book over a weekend and would read to anybody sitting still. He's telling everybody that he read his first chapter book! I've ordered the rest of the books in this series now for him and he can't wait for them to come in. This from the kid who always would rather play video games then read!

    Daughter loves!!

Great book! My 5 year old daughter loves to read this book. She also loves to look at the pictures. If you are considering this book for an early reader, you won't regret it.

This is a great series for boys and girls learning to read. I told my grandchildren if they kept reading I would keep buying books for them! My five year old grandchild started by reading a chapter (4 pages) a night, and has progressed now to 2-3 chapters! The words are those mostly learned in his kindergarten class and the pictures are fun and colorful! I have almost finished buying the series, so will move on to the next, but cannot recommend the Dick and Jane Series enough! Great way for a child to get "hooked on reading!"

    Awesome

I am thirteen now, but I remember reading these books when I was little. Not only did it help me read, but it made memories. I still remember my mother and I curling up and me reading to her. I was so proud... :)

    A Big Book for beginners

I was asked "Grandma, please find me a "big book" that will help me learn to read". My granddaughter could read some of the smaller paperbacks but wanted a book like her big sister's. I brought this with me when I came to visit and by the end of the first day she was reading the first half fluently and proudly. By the second day, she was offering to read the entire book to anyone who would listen.

    Confidence Builder

My daughter is reading on a DRA level 4. She reads other books, but always likes to come back to these Dick and Jane compilations. They are really good confidence builders. She feels like she is conquering a chapter book and is so proud of herself.
