Description: This is the third edition of a reference dictionary for terminology related to nursing theory and nursing research. This is an excellent companion to all nursing research and nursing theory books. The previous edition was in 1995.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a reference source for terms commonly found in nursing research and nursing theory.
Audience: The target audience includes nurses involved in research and nursing students at all academic levels.
Features: The authors have clear and accurate definitions of terms related to nursing research and nursing theory. Entries are in boldface type, underlining is used for emphasis, and terms within entries are in italics. This edition contains, for example, entries related to evidence-based practice and Internet research. Examples and references have been also been updated.
Assessment: This book should provide a very useful reference for the target audience. It is intended as a reference to supplement nursing research and theory books; it is not a text of research and theory.

Gives more attention to the more basic and widely used terms, and incorporates multiple or divergent uses, especially among the major textbooks. Meet the Author

Thomas R. Knapp, EdD, is Professor Emeritus of Education and Nursing at the University of Rochester and The Ohio State University. He received his EdD from Harvard University. His specialty is research methodology (statistics, measurement, design). Dr. Knapp has published several books and articles on reliability and validity and other methodological topics, some of which are now accessible free of charge on his website www.tomswebpage.net. He also served for many years as a referee for research journals in education and nursing.

Bethel Ann Powers, RN, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Associate Director of the Center for Clinical Research on Aging at the University of Rochester School of Nursing. Dr. Powers received a BS degree in nursing from Alderson-Broaddus College in West Virginia and an MS in nursing as well as MA and PhD degrees in anthropology from the University of Rochester. She has received the Distinguished Nurse Researcher Award from The Foundation of the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) and the NYSNA Council on Nursing Research and an Excellence in Nursing Research Award from Epsilon Xi Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International, Nursing Honor Society; and she is a Fellow of the Society for Applied Anthropology and The Gerontological Society of America.
