More About This Textbook

One of the outstanding problems of the biologist, whether he be beginning student or specialists, is that of understanding technical terms. The best way to understand and remember technical terms is to understand first their component parts, or roots. This dictionary has been designed primarily to meet the needs of the beginning student, the medical student, and the taxonomist, but it should be of value to all biologists.

    The Secret To Success

I share this book with my students in high school science class and will promote it every chance I get. It is the most valuable book I have ever used. When I was going to school, it was the secret to saving many hours of studying. It is pretty easy to point out the erythrocyte if you know it means 'red cell' and leukocyte if you know leuko means 'white.' It helps struggling readers to overcome really big and complex looking words. All big words are just little words strung together!! Learn a few hundred little words and you can master a hundred thousand big words!! What a great return on investment!!!

This book should be on the shelf of anyone who is either in a science (especially the biological ones) or have an interest in nature. Where else can you demystify and translate those Latin/Greek names so they tell you something about what the name refers to? This book will do that.

It's also a great place to find passwords!

    This is a worthwhile book.

'This book is worthwhile, however, if you wish to understand it totally, you need to buy the book bioscientific terminology by Donald.A.Ayers-if you wish to understand the grammar behind the roots, prefixes, and suffixes that are used to construct the words. This book is a worthwhile little dictionary, that provides the user with the common roots from greek and latin, and there is a useful index of the transliteration from straight greek to english. I would wholeheartedly reccomend this book however, remember that you should take the advice I have given previously.. 'This book is a good reference book'it needs another to fully do it the justice that it deserves.'
