A mother tells her child all the ways she demonstrates her love as they experience the events of daily living. Making sure her child is healthy, clean and well-fed, encouraging learning, listening and ensuring security are all opportunities for saying, "I love you." Mother takes time to play and chat and teach, giving her child individual attention. She prays both morning and night that everything she does is understood as an expression of love. Evans's bright, energetic illustrations, rendered in oil, are large-scale, stylized depictions of these activities. What sets this apart is that the protagonists are an African-American mother and child instead of the usual cutesy animals. In the manner of Guess How Much I Love You and other gentle evocations of parental and familial love, this is a tender read-aloud that might become an often-repeated bedtime ritual for the very young. Meet the Author

Deloris Jordan is Michael Jordan's mother and the coauthor of Salt in His Shoes, illustrated by Kadir Nelson, which Booklist called "inspirational," and Did I Tell You I Love You Today?, illustrated by Shane W. Evans, which was called "a tender read-aloud" by Kirkus Reviews. She is also the author of Family First: Winning the Parenting Game, a book highlighting the seven principles of parenting. Through her work with the James Jordan Foundation in Chicago, Illinois, as well as the Jordan Institute for Families at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Mrs. Jordan is widely regarded as an advocate for children and families. The mother of five children and the grandmother of eleven, Mrs. Jordan lives in Chicago.

Roslyn M. Jordan is Michael Jordan's sister and the coauthor, with Deloris Jordan, of Salt in His Shoes and Did I Tell You I Love You Today? She lives in Chicago.

Shane W. Evans is the award-winning illustrator of many children's books, including No More! by Doreen Rappaport, Bintou's Braids by Sylviane A. Diouf, and Homemade Love by Bell Hooks. Mr. Evans lives in Kansas City, Missouri.

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!

    This is a beautiful book for parents and children alike. The art work is beautiul and colorful. The book shows children all the things their parents do and say to show their love for them from spending time with them,to fixing their food, to praying for them. It is also is a good guide for parents because it reminds them of all the ways their children need them in their lives. It is an excellent book to help teach children and adults that love is an action word! My daughter loved it!
