Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Mittelalter, Frühe Neuzeit, einseitig bedruckt, Note: 1,7, Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg (Historisches Seminar), Veranstaltung: Städte im frühen Mittelalter, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Nachdem das Frankenreich aufgeteilt worden war und das Deutsche Reich daraus hervorging, entwickelte sich auf seinem Gebiet im Westen um die Jahrtausendwende eine neue Städtekultur, die hauptsächlich von den Bischofssitzen ausging. Diese aufblühenden Städte definierten sich als wichtige Handelszentren und Machtmittelpunkte und waren Ausgangspunkt für die weitere Städteentwicklung im deutschen Raum, die erstmals auch jenseits des Limes urbane Zivilisation auf der wirtschaftlichen Grundlage von Gewerbe, Marktverkehr und Handel dauerhaft begründete.
In dieser Zeit der neuen Städtekultur lassen sich in den Quellen die ersten jüdischen Siedlungen im Deutschen Reich nachweisen, wobei zwischen einem sporadischen Auftauchen von jüdischen Kaufleuten und sich langfristig niedergelassenen Siedlungen zu unterscheiden ist. Erstere betrieben in der Karolingerzeit bereits Handelsgeschäfte auf dem Gebiet des späteren Deutschen Reichs, wie an einigen Zollstationen belegt ist. In diesem Zusammenhang stellt sich die Frage, wie die Juden ins Deutsche Reich kamen, wo sie sich zuerst niederließen und was über ihr Leben bekannt ist.
