Chapter One

Why are there so many commercial diets on the market? If even one of them really worked for all people, that's the only one we'd all need! But obviously, there is no such thing as a one-diet-fits-all program. We have seen liquid diets, protein diets, low-carb diets, high-carb diets, all-fruit diets, water/fast diets, diets sponsored by Weight Watchers, jenny Craig, and Overeaters Anonymous. Some of these work for some people, some work for a short time, and some fail miserably. The reason for the disappointing results is simple: We are all different. Our bodies are different; our nutritional needs are different; and our dietary requirements are very different.

So the bottom line is this: To find and maintain your ideal body weight and live with maximum vitality and energy, you need a diet that is carefully tailored to your particular body type -- a diet that caters to your natural cravings and needs; a diet you can live with forever. That's exactly what you'll find in the Body Type Diet program.

Introducing the Body Type Diet

This book is about a program of weight control and health that restores the body's natural balance through an understanding of individual body types. After years of researching this subject, I have identified 25 specific body types based on dominant glands, organs, and body systems. (See the photos illustrating all 25 on pages 8 to 11.) 1 am confident that identifying your body type and learning how to feed it will allow you to easily obtain your perfect body weight and optimum health.

Knowing your body type is like having an owner's manual for your body. When you buy a BMW, you don't get a manual for a Fiat-although both are cars, each has unique requirements to ensure maximum performance. Imagine how annoyed you'd be if a car dealer insisted that you didn't need the manual published for your new BMW, because "all cars are really pretty much the same.,' well, that's what you've been told all these years about diet plans-that all people's dietary needs are pretty much the same. Body typing says loud and clear: They are not!

We all have bodies, but they come in different,"models" or "body types." Figuring out your body type provides the "manual" that enables you to create your ideal body and ensure your maximum performance. In the chapters of this book you will find that each ofthe 25 different body types has its own unique psychological profile, dietary guidelines, weight-loss and weight-gain guide, and recommended types of exercise.

It's important to focus on your unique diet and health needs because the action of the dominant gland in your body can deplete the nutrients needed for high-performance functioning of your specific body type. Certain foods stimulate and weaken your dominant gland; other foods support or rebuild it. The Body Type Diet guides you to the foods that keep your body type strong. This is a system for weight control through health. The key is to bring your body back into balance by eating what supports your body and avoiding foods that cause your body stress.

The collection of photos on the following pages will give you an overview of the name and appearance of each of the 25 body types for males and females. in Chapter 2 you'll learn how to identify your specific body type.

The Advantages of Body Typing

By identifying your body type, you gain specific knowledge of and insight into many areas of diet that control your personal requirements for lifelong health and vitality. Through body typing you'll learn:

  • What foods your body requires to maintain, gain, or lose weight
  • How much fat and protein your body needs The best time of day to eat certain foods
  • Why you have certain food cravings and how to get rid of them
  • What types of exercise are most effective for you What your ideal yet realistic body type looks and feels like
  • What foods your particular body type needs to gain vitality, stamina, and maximum energy
  • How to get healthy and stay healthy
  • What motivates you, challenges you, and aids your emotional and spiritual growth

This is a long list of advantages that can be yours when you use the Body Type Diet program to nurture both the physical and psychological aspects of your dietary needs.

Successful Weight Control with Body Typing

One of the first indications that your body is under excessive stress is an imbalance in your weight. While weight gain is generally the most common symptom of the body being out of balance, so is weight loss.

Maintaining your ideal weight and energy level is the goal of this program; that goal is achieved through an individualized diet that's just right for your body type. (From here on, the word diet means "the consumption of foods chosen to support your body.") The easiest way to manage your weight is by changing your diet to include the foods your body needs most and eliminate those that are stressful.

Even minor dietary changes geared to support your dominant gland can have amazing results-you often don't have to do very much before you see a difference. By simply creating more variety in your weekly menus, or by eating certain foods at specific times of the day, you will be able to increase your health and sense of well-being as well as attain and maintain your proper weight.

Often people with long histories of yo-yo dieting or those who have battled weight all their lives (including those who were "born heavy" or started the battle in their teens) have finally been able to rid themselves of unwanted pounds and inches by sticking to a diet plan that is tailor-made for their body type. And what they really appreciate with this body typing program is that they can keep the weight off.
