"Differentiating Instruction With Menus for the Inclusive Classroom: Math" for grades K-2 offers teachers who have multiple ability levels in one classroom everything they need to create a student-centered learning environment based on appropriate choice for everyone. The book provides numerous types of leveled menus that young students can use to select exciting products to demonstrate learning. The attractive reproducible menus in the book address topics such as geometry, operations, number sense, and measurement. Menus with similar formats but geared toward varying ability levels allow teachers to differentiate easily. Using the creative and challenging choices found in Three-Shape menus, Tic-Tac-Toe menus, Target-Based List menus, and more, students will look forward to sharing their newfound knowledge throughout the year. Also included are specific guidelines for products, rubrics for assessing student products, and teacher introduction pages for each menu.

Excellent Resource!! As a 3/4/5 Multiage Teacher, I found this book (along with others in the series) to be a key resource in organizing the learning within my classroom. Westphal’s menu books have assisted me with meeting diverse academic ranges and infusing content standards. Project Based Learning has allowed for students within my classroom to pursue their interests and choose projects that match their personal learning styles. The variety of menus within these books allow for all learners to find an entry point with a concept. Small rubrics are also included which provide students simple descriptions of each project, increase their independence as learners, and allow for self-assessment to be a natural part of the learning process. These menus can be used to supplement curriculum, introduce or review concepts, or formatively assess student learning. I highly recommend these books to other teachers who strive to meet individual needs and personalize instruction for all students.
Grade 3-5 Math Activities with Accommodations *** Chapters 1-4 explains menus, how to use menus in the inclusive classroom, guidelines for products and rubrics. The remaining five chapters provide projects and worksheets to be used in lesson plans for whole numbers and operations, fractions, probability and statistics, geometry, and measurement. Each menu page (activity) includes an introduction, content menu, guidelines, and activities. Symbols are used to indicate lower and middle-level contact to be able to easily adapt the activities to student skill level. Reproducible rating sheets and practicable inexpensive math activities encompass two-thirds of the book. The book includes a list of references and resources.
