Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
As he was reading a book about dinosaurs, Dan got a good idea. He would dig a deep hole in his backyard and find the bones of dinosaurs that had lived there many years ago. As he dug, he thought about each era he was going through. He knew that the terrible Tyrannosaurus rex had lived in the Cretaceous period. As he shoveled deeper he looked for the remains of a gigantic Brachiosaurus that had lived in the Jurassic time frame. When his hole was really deep, he was sure he had reached the Triassic period and looked for evidence of the Ceolophysis. Dan's mother kept interrupting his work by reminding him that they would be leaving for the museum soon. Dan did not like museums. He thought they were dark and creepy. He was amazed to discover that this museum was great. It had real dinosaur bones and a large tooth that looked very much like something he had found while digging his hole. Dan's adventures and his imaginary discoveries are shown in large, colorful illustrations. Directions for making a T-rex out of pipe cleaners and factual information about this creature follow the story. Pictures and information about the author and illustrator occupy the closing pages. An attractive book for young readers. It is part of the "Flying Foxes" series. 2001, Crabtree, and Ages 6 to 8.
