Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Getting to the bare-bone basics of digital photography is relatively easy. Learning to master all the camera bells and whistles now at your fingertips requires help. Digital Photography Masterclass, by veteran digital photography author Tom Ang, answers that call with a comprehensive (360-page), extensively illustrated (1,500-plus full-color photographs) one-on-one guide that covers every aspect of photo technique and digital manipulation. Ang uses lucid tutorials, sensible practical assignments, and clear step-by-step projects to teach the art and craft of creating unforgettable (and marketable) pictures.
Library Journal

One of Britain's best-known photographers, Ang has hosted a popular BBC TV series called A Digital Picture of Britain and won the Thomas Cook Travel Book Award. In this comprehensive, personal volume, Ang revels in digital photography, the medium that brought in, he writes, "the most exuberant growth and vigorous expansion ever seen in the history of photography." He teaches how to look at the world with a photographer's eye and offers tutorials, photographic assignments, and step-by-step image-manipulation exercises. Combining technical and artistic aspects of photography, Ang completes the volume with sections on travel, documentary, portrait, nature, sports, and architecture photography. Each of these can be supplemented with monographs, such as the second edition of G. Newman Lowrance's Digital Sports Photography. A fine selection for all libraries.

Not quite a "master class". A lot of subjects are covered but not in enough depth! I wanted something more advanced!

This is a good book covering a large variety of subjects relating to photography but it definitely is not a "Master class". It is more for the advanced beginner photographer.

    Inspiring photos

Limited text relies mostly on inspiring photos and some knoweldge of basic photography to understand what you are looking at.

    Rent it dont buy it

I am so glad I found this book at my public library rather then buying it and having nothing more then a paperweight. The book is simplistic at best with information. He talks about shutter speed, aperature etc but does not go into detail or informative informations that you could use. THe title of masterclass is misleading. It should be titled entry level and then I would say it would be a value. If you are even thinking about this book you propbably know as much or more then the book will offer you.

    Not impressed!

I was hoping for a more indepth look at photography and this wasn't it. It covers a lot of material, but it's very vague in my opinion. Sure it has some great photos, that's about it. I'm planning on returning this book and investing my money elsewhere.

    A fine manual type book.

Overall, a great read, a great look back manual, and a book that needs to be in everyone's photo library.

    Fair

I can not rember anything about this book, that stuck in my head. Its writen
in away that went right over my head. Lessons were dull. The last parts of the book were photos of other photographers work. That did not apeal to me.

    I Also Recommend:

This Book delivers what its title promises: a masterclass in Digital photography.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly--read it straight through--cover to cover. It was very well organized and the information was fairly comprehensive, clear, concise and well illustrated. I found the book very helpful in clarifying several areas about image editing where my comprehension of the topic was still somewhat fuzzy. This is a keeper--a valuable reference book I'll be keeping for a long time!

This is a serious book for experienced photographers.

This is not a book for beginners. Read Digital Photography for Dummies first and then take a lot of pictures before you tackle this one. Once you have the basics down solid, this is the next book to read. It can't be read in an evening. It takes a lot of attention, but it is worth the effort to raise digital photography skills to a higher level.

The photography in the book is terrific and the explanations are good, as well. Read a little at a time.
