The purpose of this study was to discover whether Digital Storytelling influenced participants to make substantive meaning altering revisions in their writing. This study also explored the influence that digital images have on the quality of participants Digital Stories. The participants were four middle school students invited to attend a summer writing clinic at a mid-western university. The study used a qualitative case study design. Data were collected from multiple sources: written drafts, revision conferences, field observations, interview questionnaires, storyboards, and iMovies. Results indicated that at the beginning of the study the participants had a shallow understanding of revision. Essentially, they viewed revision as the correction of minor writing faults. At the conclusion of the study, however, the participants used three major revision operations: adding, deleting, and rearranging story elements as they wrote their Digital Stories. It was found that storyboarding and iMovie making, in particular, influenced writers to engage in substantive meaning altering revision of their Digital Stories. It was also found that incorporating digital images into their Digital Stories had an important influence on the quality of participants' writing.
