School Library Journal - School Library JournalPreS-K On a snowy day a young boy and his dog go outside on a dinosaur hunt. When they unearth a garbage can and a bicycle instead of the hoped for bagaceratops and syntarsus, the boy grows disheartened. Then the snow growls, moves, and boy and dog are chased home by a large, green monster with orange spots. Safely in his apartment the boy gasps, ``It's a good thing dinosaurs aren't real!'' This and his discouraged observation that dinosaurs exist only in books and in your mind might give young readers the idea that dinosaurs rank with gryphons and unicorns. While the definitions in the glossary are relatively accurate, the jolly cartoon figures that accompany them bear only a rough resemblance to actual reconstruction. Finally, the inclusion of the spotted green monster, the ``monstersaurus,'' while clearly tongue in cheek, might confuse young readers. Ann Welton, Lake Dollof Elementary School, Auburn, Wash.
