Dinosaur [Original Soundtrack]

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Moira McCormick
Composer James Newton Howard's orchestral, mostly instrumental soundtrack to Disney's summer 2000 mega-release DINOSAUR does what a self-respecting soundtrack should do: It effectively conveys the film's settings and moods. Paralleling the movie's action, the DINOSAUR score musically chronicles the journey of the Iguanodon hero, Aladar. There's the stirring opener "Inner Sanctum/The Nesting Grounds", the lyrical love interlude "Aladar & Neera", the suspenseful conflict "The Carnotaur Attack", the calm before the climax "Neera Rescues the Orphans", the final conflict "Kron & Aladar Fight", and the uplifting finale "Epilogue". If the music itself sounds ...

If the music itself sounds somewhat similar to the score from "The Lion King," it should -- to Disney's credit, they once again employed sublime South African musician Lebo M, whose Soweto-bred vocal shadings distinguished that jungle epic. Lebo's vocal arrangements here, along with subtly percolating African percussion, buoy every track in which they appear, from "The Courtship" to "Across the Desert" to "It Comes with a Pool." Newton Howard’s heart-pounding score will make Aladar and Neera’s adventures as immediate and exciting as they are in the movie.
All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Dinosaur, Disney's 2000 film featuring a cutting-edge blend of computer animation and live-action footage, features an original soundtrack by James Newton Howard, who has also composed scores for My Best Friend's Wedding, The Fugitive, and Prince of Tides. Here, Howard's music reflects the film's story of Aladar, a three-ton Iguanodon separated from the rest of his kind. A tasteful and appropriate score that will please Howard aficionados as well as fans of Dinosaur.
