Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
This is a book than can be read page by page and then stretched out like and accordion. It is all packaged in a little slipcase. The text and illustrations are printed on both sides and the focus is on dinosaurs. Why these creatures seem to fascinate young children, even though they have polysyllabic and almost unpronounceable names and died out about sixty-five million years ago, has always been a mystery to this reviewer. Some of the dinosaurs are familiar, such as the ankylosaurus, triceratops, Tyranosaurus Rex and stegosaurus (thankfully for parents there is a guide to pronunciation). Some of the dinosaurs were fairly new to this reviewer—diplodocus, plateosaurus, and baryonyx, as well as several creatures that are not really dinosaurs but lived during the age of dinosaurs, such as plesiosaurus and pteranodon. On each small page there is a fairly detailed illustration and text that points out special body features and the types of food these dinosaurs consumed. There is even a brief glossary and the back cover breaks down the age of dinosaurs into their major categories and notes which creatures lived during each of these eras. It is a clever book, chock full of information and small enough to fit in a pocket. It would make and excellent gift for any young dinosaur fan. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
