Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
PreS-K--In this fun book, each double-page spread contains two words (e.g., "Dinosaurs roar," "Dinosaurs rock," etc.) along with a cartoon illustration. The small format is good for young hands and the multicolored dinosaurs wearing tutus, clogs, and sunglasses will delight youngsters. This approach is quite similar to Paul Stickland's Dinosaur Stomp! (Dutton, 1996). However, although billed as a "rookie reader," this book has several weaknesses as a beginning reader. While only 17 words are used, the vocabulary is not easy. Young readers are not likely to recognize terms such as "clog," "shuffle," or "prance," and the illustrations are of little help in deciphering them. Also, the typeface makes some of the letters difficult to discern (e.g., there is a very short tail on the "p"). Still, the cartoons are bright and appealing and the text is easy for pre-readers to memorize, making this an adequate purchase for picture-book collections.--Sharon R. Pearce, San Antonio Public Library, TX
