School Library Journal
Gr 1-6Dinosaurs is just what most kids want when they ask for a book about dinosaurs. It's big (but not thick), and has plenty of colorful illustrations and just enough text to cover the dinosaur basics. Clear charts of dinosaurs' lifespans and locations of dinosaur fossil finds decorate the endpapers, and an index makes the text (if not the charts) more accessible. Best of all, Cohen has included some of the latest theories about dinosaurs, including the possibilities that they were warm-blooded, that they were related to birds, and that some species gave birth to live young. Comparable to, but more current than, McGowen's Album of Dinosaurs (Macmillan, 1972), this book will update collections and provide lots of big pictures of dinosaurs. Cathryn A.
