Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Amazingly, there are 850 types of dinosaurs now known to man. Perhaps more shocking is the discovery of eight new types each year. With this handy, quick-reference book from National Geographic tucked in your pocket and a keen eye, you could become an expert about any geological dig. You will read about dinosaurs in the order in which they lived on earth. Each page outlines a dinosaur's specific behaviors, habitat, size, eating habits and name. Maps are provided to help you track the discovery of its fossils. An unusual fact is shared in the "Field Notes" section. A large illustration of each creature in its natural environment helps bring these fascinating prehistoric beings back to life. The book concludes with a glossary and a place for your own field notes. The more you read, the more you gain a real appreciation for these mighty, yet vulnerable creatures of the past. A "National Geographic My First Pocket Guide." 2001, The National Geographic Society, $7.95. Ages 6 to 10. Reviewer:Leslie Julian
