Overview

Renowned paleontologist Dr. Robert T. Bakker and paleoartist Luis V. Rey combine forces in this hardcover omnibus of three impeccibly accurate, dino-centric Picturebacks, available for the first time in 3-D! The dynamic dinos in Dinosaurs!, Prehistoric Monsters!, and Dino Babies! have always looked like they could jump off the printed page—and now they literally can! Watch as a spiked Stegosaurus tail whips off the page and scores a direct hit into an allosaurus (ouch!), or a pack of raptors leap onto the back of an unsuspecting tenontosaurus (uh-oh), or a squealing baby titanosaur hatches from an egg and is greeted by its giant mother (awww . . . ). Complete with a sturdy pair of 3-D glasses that fold into a reusable storage case, Dinosaurs: In Your Face! makes a perfect gift for kids who like their science to come with a little action!

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
Narrated in a conversational tone, Dr. Bakker tells the reader that he is a paleontologist. He explains that he studies dinosaurs through examining fossils of bones and footprints left behind. Three separate books appear between the same covers. The first, "Dinosaurs" begins with the earliest dinosaurs from the Triassic Period and continues with their evolution through the Jurassic and Cretaceous Periods. The second book, "Dino Babies" describes ways in which dinosaurs cared for their young and lived together in families. "Prehistoric Monsters," the third book, begins with the end of the Precambrian Era and focuses on the Paleozoic Era before moving on the Mesozoic Era. Mammals developed in the Cenozoic Era and eventually the species of Homo sapiens emerged. All of the names of dinosaurs and other complex words are followed with pronunciation guides in parenthesis. The 3-D illustrations pop out at the reader with the use of the special glasses enclosed in the cover. A good book for two people to read together; one can read the text while the other enjoys the pictures and then they can switch places. A young child would enjoy wearing the glasses while an adult reads the narrative. A fun and informative book for all ages. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.
