Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
Praise for this series:

"...the formula doesn't begin to describe the wonder of opening up each page into a satisfyingly enormous illustration in the master designer /illustrator's typically pleasing shapes...and wildly contrasting colors. Young children will have a blast, over and over again, opening the pages, looking at the pictures, and identifying the animals." —School Library Journal

Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich
Subtitled "a giant fold-out book," this 8 ½" by 8 ½" book consists of six large 17" square pages of heavy cardstock with drawings of various kinds of dinosaurs folded down in such a way that, when the book is opened, the left hand pages reveal brightly colored images of what might be parts of a dinosaur with the words, "Who am I" printed at the bottom and, on the right-hand page, printed in white on black, there a few words such as, "I have a long tail" or "I have a big beak." The reader must then lift the right-hand page up to reveal another section of the picture that has been revealed and to read on the back of the lifted page more words of description about the picture such as: "I have three horns—two large and one small." Next the reader must move the right edge of that page up and over to reveal the completed 17" picture of a dinosaur name of the particular kind one of dinosaur, for instance, "I'm a triceratops!" This is a book best opened on a table or the floor. Reviewer: Eleanor Heldrich

PreS—Taback introduces six dinosaurs in his latest foldout book. By lifting the flaps of this sturdy board book, readers will be engaged in a guessing game. Each spread begins with a quarter of the image visible and the simple question, "Who am I?" On the opposite page is the first clue: "I have a long tail…." This flap is unfolded vertically, exposing an additional quarter of the page and another clue: "…and a long neck." This is unfolded to the left, exposing the entire image and the dinosaur's identity: "I am a brachiosaurus!" The interactive design, high-demand subject, and bold appealing images should make this a popular choice.—Laura Butler, Mount Laurel Library, NJ

…an excellent introduction for the youngest paleontologist…Taback's trademark hand-drawn lines create easily recognizable, vibrant creatures that will elicit appreciative oohs and aahs.
