Direct From Neptune Bay: Songs from Rainbow Fish

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ganda Suthivarakom
Rainbow Fish and his underwater buddies, Blue and Sea Filly, dazzle kids on the "fintastic" HBO animated series "Rainbow Fish." The cartoon’s calypso theme song may be reminiscent of "Under the Sea" from Disney’s The Little Mermaid, but the delightful soundtrack includes singable songs in almost every genre of music, including spaghetti western, Springsteen-esque rock, and, of course, surf rock. "Gill Power" takes the Spice Girls’ motto and turns it into a candy-pop empowerment theme for girls. The ragtime number "Doin’ the Old Soft Shell" includes charming sea jokes for kids such as "Do you know how to tune a piano? No, but I know how to tuna fish!" Best of all ...

Best of all is a cute duet between Rainbow and his sister Ruby that knowingly chronicles sibling rivalry and filial love: "You’d think we’d hate each other, but we’ve got news for you/We get along swimmingly/In spite of all of our fighting, we’re as close as can be." If your kids enjoy watching "Rainbow Fish," this seaworthy soundtrack is an ideal audio companion.
