Children's Literature
Fans of motocross and supercross will be drawn in immediately with the opening page description of a dirt bike rider sailing through the air in a competition. Information on the history of these motor bikes, their design, the competitions and a brief one-page biography of the National Motocross champion, Ricky Carmichael, fill the twenty-nine pages. The parts of a dirt bike are identified on a color photograph. As with all the titles in the high interest "Wild Rides!" series, sentences are kept short, there is good use of white space on each page, and there are color action-photos to keep the reader involved. At the beginning of each of the four chapters there is a vertical border listing the topics covered, which is very helpful for struggling readers. The glossary has a pronunciation guide. Also included are a brief BIBLIOgraphy, the Internet and mailing addresses for the American and Canadian motorcycle associations, and an index. This will be a popular item. 2002, Capstone High-Interest Books,— Sharon Salluzzo
