Overview

She wants a fling, and he wants forever…

Zoologist Sara Carmichael’s active social life is the envy of all her friends, but she has a secret. She’s bored senseless. If she has to go to one more bird sanctuary fundraiser with some guy who thinks his little sports car makes him “hip”, she'll scream.

Enter Brad O’Halloran, her best friend Kim’s much younger brother. A guy who’s picking up the pieces after a quickie marriage and even quicker divorce. A guy so hot he makes her body scream with frustration.

Until Sara’s apartment is renovated, they’re all living at Kim’s place. Despite her determination not to salivate at glimpses of Brad’s finer-than-fine body in nothing but a low-slung towel, flirtation escalates to the brink of something more.

Now one of them has to back down…or ante up for some good, dirty fun with the unspoken understanding that when the time comes, they’ll make a clean break. Neither anticipated they’d make the most complicated connection of all—love.

Warning: This book contains a hero who knows how to make engines— and women—purr, seduction while on cold meds, and a heroine who might be a little older but still enjoys learning a few naughty new tricks.

Dirty Distractions Cari Quinn ARC supplied by author. I love a romance with a HEA and some heat :) and Cari has done just that with this book. There needs to be a decent journey to that HEA though, and I found it here. Sara, “older “ lady ( and what a treat after all the endless college/uni kids...it sometimes seems as if anyone over 25 is dead so far as romance is concerned so Thanks Cari – we're not dead !!) is staying with her best friend Kim and Kims' brother Brad while her flat is being renovated. Brad is deliciously hot, presses all Saras' buttons but.. he's younger. Much younger and she doesn't want to be seen as a cougar. Not only that he has a reputation as a womaniser, and she doesn't want to be one in a line of many. Still, the colleagues she has seem to be her only hope for romance and they leave her cold. Brad keeps up the smile and flirting though, showing her his finely toned body, making her mouth water, keeping up the sexy glances and teasing til he catches her in a vulnerable moment – and the heat from them is sizzling. Cari writes sex that is sensual and erotic not smutty and cringing, scenes that really make you feel the attraction between Brad and Sara, and their connection. She's worried about what her friend will think though and so asks Brad to be discreet. Brad isn't content to be someone just there for a fling though – he knows Sara thinks he's too young but he's old enough to make up his own mind and Sara is it for him. The tension between them is incredible, the sexual tension while they’re flirting then the conflict when Sara wants him to keep quiet so Kim doesn't know they're together. It makes for some riveting reading. The characters are so well fleshed out I feel I know them, I understand Sara's caution – she thinks she knows Brad, but in reality its gossip she knows and not the true story. Then there's Brad, what a man, sensual and erotic, full of teasing and smouldering glances, he wants Sara but wants her openly and forever – I feel for him. Somehow we're primed to see age different of twelve years as so as nothing when its the woman that's younger but when its the man the names come out, the doubts whether it will last etc. Its always seemed unfair to me – and ironic given that women tend to live longer too...so its great to read a book that makes it work in a good way while pointing out all the quirks that people come up with against this sort of gap. Its a fun read, made me smile lots of times – him indoors kept saying “that must be a funny book, you're smiling again”. Its really well written and the characters are great from good friend Kim, lovely older(!!) Sara, the fabulous Brad ( I can't rave about him enough) and the slim-ball neighbour Derek (I think that was his name) he typified so many men who think they're God's gift but in reality make us poor ladies cringe with their touching and innuendo. Its always the creeps that are worst for that isn't it? So, a great book, fabulous journey and escape for a while reading it, I was lost to the world while engrossed in their story, and some hot and steamy moments, along with some great humour. I loved when Kim mentioned finding King Kong in Brad's bathroom.....all in all a book to read and reread, a great story and at £2.01 for 136 pages fine on my VFM scale Stars: five.

3.5 Star Review: Dirty Distractions by Carrie Quinn is a very hot and funny romance. About three years ago, ornithologist Sara Carmichael relocated to Fairdale, Pennsylvania for the opportunity to work at the Fairdale Bird Sanctuary.  She became fast friends with fellow employee Kim O’Halloran, and moved in with Kim and her hunky younger brother Brad, when her landlord decided to renovate her apartment.  There was instant chemistry from the moment Sara and Brad set their eyes on each other.  Unfortunately, Sara is forty-two and Brad is twenty-nine, almost thirty, and getting involved with a much younger man causes Sara a ton of angst and uneasiness.  Furthermore, she believes getting involved with Brad may jeopardize her wonderful friendship with Kim.  Brad is a smart, good-looking guy that owns a very successful car repair shop.  He is divorced and is falsely known around town as being a ladies man.  Unbeknownst to most people, he only got married because he thought the girl he was seeing was pregnant with his child, which ended up being a lie. He wants to settle down and have a meaningful relationship. Brad does not see age as a barrier to love. Living temporarily in the same house only increases the lust and longing both Sara and Brad feel for each other.  After flirting on and off for a couple of months, they end up having steamy, scorching sex and can't keep their hands off of each other.  Brad is falling in love with Sara but believes that he is not good enough for her.  Brad makes Sara a happier and better person, but she is having trouble believing that and ends up risking their future together.  It takes Brad distancing himself from their relationship to make Sara realize he is the man for her. Sara keeps her pet bird Telly caged in her bedroom.  Telly is a mimicking bird and has picked up on the words and phrases that the newly formed couple have used during their rendezvouses together. It is absolutely hysterical when Telly loudly shares his new vocabulary.  Kim has certainly picked up on the fact that Sara and Brad are sleeping together, she just does not understand why they are so secretive about it.  Telly's outbursts only adds comical confirmation to the situation. In the beginning of the book, Sara has a bad cold and Brad nurses her back to health, which includes great sex.  By the end of the book, Brad has caught Sara's sickness and she returns the favor.  I guess only true lovers can enjoy each other when one is feverish, sneezing, coughing and wheezing. This is a fast read.  The writing is very good and I would have enjoyed the story even more with some additional plot development.

As posted on The Smutty Kitty reviewed by KittyKelly 3.5 out of 5 Licks This book had some super hot moments between Sara and Brad. It's a miracle they were able to keep their relationship a secret for as long as they did with all the noise they made. lol There were some things that happened while she was sick that kind of irked me out but that's probably just because I like to be left alone when I'm sick. Go get me a drink or some food and then leave me alone! lol While I did enjoy the book I had a hard time getting sucked into it. I felt that it dragged a bot in places and with my short attention span that meant I would put it down and come back to it later. But I did enjoy the overall story line of the book. Brad and Sara work well together and you can't help but fall for a man who takes care of you when you are sick and then showers you with sweet gestures and sexy baths when you are better! I laughed a lot while reading this book which is always fun. I love a book that can make me laugh out loud and this one definitely succeeded. I'm excited to see this is the start of a series cause I really want to read Kim's (Brad's sister) book next!!
