Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Rhyming text of 32 words tells just how dirty Larry gets as he plays throughout the day. Nearly all text is arranged in two-word phrases, such as "dirty face," which shows Larry's ice-cream cone all over his face as he slurps the drips up. "Dirty clothes" shows Larry sliding into the turf to catch a football. The rhymes unwind over a number of pages such that the new reader is unlikely to hear them until he or she can master the text enough to read quickly to the end. Larry's face is unwaveringly eager and dirty, and Catanese's cartoon illustrations suit the boy's exuberant exploration of the landscape. This is a gently funny story for emergent or new readers with a few challenges, such as the rhyming shower/hour and dirty knees, understandable in context. Part of "A Rookie Reader" series, Level A. 2002, Children's Press,

    Great for beginner readers

My son is 6 and is just beginning to read and I was trying to find some books that we could read together. I thought about the Dick and Jane books but they are soooo boring!! Dirty Larry is fun and easy.
