Editorial Reviews

Judith's Review
As much as I love romance fiction, I think I especially like books that pair romance with mystery. Add in an author's sense of humor expressed in the repartee between the main characters, and you have a read that is a treat for the brain and one that tickles the funny bone. Liliana Hart is relatively new to me and after enjoying this book and one or two others she has published, I can't imagine not continuing to enjoy her writing.

A Book A Day
This is the first book I've read by Liliana Hart and I'm really glad I downloaded it. Needless to say, I was impressed. The story is short, probably around 200 pages, and appears to be the first in a series, but it had lots of tension, humor, wit, mystery, and the best friendship and potential romance I've read in a while.

Dr. JJ Graves became the county medical examiner and mortician for the town of Bloody Mary, Virginia at the age of 30 after the mysterious death of her parents...

I really hate being a copy cat, but I just had to give this book the 5 stars it deserves like everyone else to now has done.
This book had an interesting mix of humor, sarcasm, mystery and romance and an ultra surprising ending.

J.J. "Jaye" Graves is a mortician and she is also the coroner of her small community. At one time she was a Doctor in a decent sized hospital until her parents died together under suspicious circumstances and she came home...

Meet the Author

Liliana Hart spent five years teaching music in the public education system. She molded America’s youth, busted kids for smoking pot in the restrooms, and broke up illicit affairs behind the stage on a regular basis. (Liliana’s Addison Holmes Mystery Series, about a small town teacher who gets into a whole lot of trouble, is somewhat autobiographical, but she won’t confess to which parts).

Liliana began reading romance novels with all her new found free time, and when she ran out of things to read, she decided to write her own novels. The result was a 150,000 word thriller—a dazzling adventure—where the heroine was a thirty-year-old virgin assassin (Yes, you read that right). She couldn’t imagine why people weren’t knocking down her door to read it, but she persevered through the rejections and began writing a second book. She finally got the hang of things and eventually learned that losing one’s virginity wasn’t all that romantic after all. All of her books involve some kind of suspense (she just can't help herself), laughter, and a lot of steamy sex.

Since the failure of her first writing attempt, Liliana’s books have gone on to win awards such as: The Daphne Du Maurier, The Suzannah, The Linda Howard Award of Excellence, The Maggie, and many others. Her affiliations include Romance Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America.

Liliana loves to cook and is addicted to reading, Internet Boggle, kickboxing, and Bones. She lives in a big, rambling house in Texas with a couple of cats to keep her company. She loves to get emails from readers.

Enjoy the Adventures!

I enjoyed reading this book even though it was sometimes overly graphic. The ending was a big surprise. Read it and see for yourself...

Spoiler Alert! I found that the blurb had me rather excited for this story. I was convinced I’d finally discovered a mystery novel worth throwing my time into. After reading the first few chapters, I still had that feeling bubbling within me. But, the instant Brody entered the scene, all hope seemed to vanish for the story. Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea behind how the murders were picked and how they were preformed alongside the career of Jaye, but the romance was too overbearing. The instant connection between her and Brody just shook me up too much and Jack and her seemed a bit…well, their relationship seemed to obvious. It takes a lot to balance things properly, I’m aware of this, but the author didn’t impress me with the way she did it.  Now, time for the true disappointment of the story: the killer. There was absolutely not a shred of foreshadowing beyond one mention of Mooney not being stupid that would have suggested him being capable of killing those girls. There was no hints, there was no evidence, there was nothing. Without foreshadowing or anything of that nature, the story isn’t truly giving us anything. We are left blind only to be feed something created by the “God’s Hand” effect near the end that completely throws us off and not in a “OHHH! I get it!” sort of way. For that moment to be given to us—that one where we just stare blankly and have a smirk crept to our lips as we connect the dots—there has to actually be dots for us to connect. The author provide no dots. None. Everything pointed towards Brody, and honestly, he should have been the killer based off of what was given—even if he was the obvious one.  I did, however, enjoy the description the author gave. She described everything very well and in a manner that wasn’t to overpowering but wasn’t too little either. I enjoyed the snarky comments made by Jaye, Jack, and Brody as well. Those aspects worked very well, as did the picking of the murders. I loved Phonia’s secrets. They made it quite promising that the others killed would also have huge secret lives. But, I was disappointed by Amanda’s and Jaye’s when they didn’t measure up to Phonia’s at all. Jaye’s wasn’t even dark really or that bad nor was Amanda’s—well in respect to Phonia’s I mean.  But, in the end, I would probably recommend this to others while warning them that I was let down by the time the ending rolled around, but if they were not as picky as me, they would most likely enjoy it.  ~Alice~

I try to only read Nook books while commuting or traveling and read real books at home. The plot, the sardonic humor, the secrets grabbed my attention and held it throughout. I had to fight to put it down.
