New 'doggie detective' book works for adults and kids

I stumbled on 'Disappearing Diamonds' while looking for an interesting kids book. It's one of the most original, funny books I've read in years for kids or adults. A bichon frise named Upton Charles is the narrator, and the most accurate word I can find for him is endearing - and I'm not even a dog person. His homespun intelligence will resonate with kids as well as adults and, like me, you'll be looking forward to the rest of this sparkling new Upton Charles series.

    It's a dog's life

I was impressed with the combination of plot, character and simplicity. The book is written in the first person present which makes it very easy reading for an early reader. The author's use of a dog as a narrator, especially such a cute dog, is wonderful. Highly recommended for 8-10 year olds.
