Our world is not as safe as we would all like to believeĆ¢?? Anything can happen. Disasters occur on an almost daily basis all around the globe. Major events in recent years have included the devastating tsunamis striking Japan and the coast of Sumatra, Hurricane Katrina, the rash of tornadoes that swept across the U.S. in 2011, the deadly earthquake in Haiti, and the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and of course, most recently, Hurricane Sandy, from which many on the Eastern Seaboard are still recovering. We need to be prepared for fires that burn out of control and the spread of disease as well as terrorist strikes and pandemics. If any of these disasters were to occur, would you be ready?

This is a very good book. It covers all the basics of disaster preparedness. In case there's any confusion, this is a reprint of the 1st Edition of Dr. Bradley's Handbook to Practical Disaster Preparedness for the Family. The newest (3rd) edition of that book includes several new topics, including solar storms, EMP attacks, and provides a very nice chapter on specific preparations for hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, tsunamis, and earthquakes. It is, however, a few dollars more. If money's a big issue, get this older edition. If not, you might want to spring for the newest edition.

    Excellent, basic and economical approach!

A new dimension into preparing for the worst. A common sense approach is taken with this book, without going to extremes that others do. The author gives economical alternatives to many expensive prepper items on the market.
