The much-anticipated, explosive expose of how cell phone use damages brain cells, especially in children, by one of the world's foremost scientific experts in the field.

Devra Davis presents an array of recent and long suppressed research in this timely bombshell. Cell phone radiation is a national emergency. Stunningly, the most popular gadget of our age has now been shown to damage DNA, break down the brain's defenses, and reduce sperm count while increasing memory loss, the risk of Alzheimer's disease, and even cancer. The growing brains of children make them especially vulnerable. And half of the world's four billion cell phone used by people under twenty.

Davis, the founding director of the toxicology and environmental studies board at the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, takes readers through the dark side of this trillion-dollar industry. Health experts have long been frozen out of policy-making decisions about cell phones; federal regulatory standards are set by the cell phone industry itself. Cell phone manufacturers have borrowed the playbook of the tobacco industry. One secret memo reveals their war plan against reports of cell phone dangers.

Among a host of fascinating characters, Davis introduces Om P. Gandhi, a world expert on how cell phone radiation penetrates the human brain. Once a consultant to major cell phone companies, Gandhi now refuses to work with them. Franz Adlkofer led the multi-lab study that showed once and for all that brain cell DNA is unraveled by cell phone microwave radiation-and, as Davis dramatically portrays, it nearly cost him his career.

As this eye-opening call to action shows, we can make safer cell phones now. Why would we put our children at risk of a devastating epidemic of brain illness in the years to come?

Editorial Reviews

Juliet Eilperin
While Davis cannot resolve the fundamental questions about the potential dangers of extensive electronic radiation, she deftly navigates the history of the cellphone and the scientific studies surrounding its use. She picks apart many of the assumptions that continue to guide cellphone regulations…[and] makes a compelling case for U.S. authorities to update their standards, especially in light of how much we now use our devices and the number of teenagers who now have them.

Meet the Author

Devra Davis

Devra Davis, Ph. D., M. P. H., is a scientist, professor, speaker, and acclaimed author, and recently testified before a United States Senate committee about the dangers of cell phone use. Her first book, When Smoke Ran Like Water, was a National Book Award finalist. She is the founder of Environmental Health Trust, www.environmentalhealthtrust.org. She lives in Washington, D.C., and Jackson, Wyoming.

Good To Know

Davis was fired from her first job as a summer camp counselor in New England. Recalls Davis, "I had taught the campers 'marching' songs, some of which I had learned from my drill sergeant father, like 'Dirty Lil' and 'Sound Off' and others which were anti-war ditties, such as 'I Ain't a Marching Anymore,' and 'The Cat Came Back.' I got canned because the camp director made me out to be someone who would not always fall in line. Who knew?"

Davis on her family ties: "I am very proud of my big-talking, big-walking siblings and my own grand, noisy Langer, Davis, Morgenstern, Tuckfelt, Goldenberg family, where, as in Garrison Keillor's famous town, all the children are above average, all the women are strong and all the men are good looking. My daughter Lea just graduated from Oberlin College with a double major in the two things you are not supposed to argue about in polite company -- Politics and Religion -- and is teaching in a very modern Orthodox Jewish pre-school in Northern California that includes several gay parents. My son, Aaron, is a former United States Marine and is en route to becoming a real chef, so he is both strong and secure. My husband, Richard Morgenstern, regularly traipses around Asia getting governments to reduce their use of filthy, sickening fuels. The entire lot of us likes to work just a bit outside the box."

According to Davis, "The town I grew up in was famous in the way that Jack the Ripper and the Son of Sam were famous, so of course nobody ever talked about it. Only when I went away to college did I ever hear that a town called Donora had been badly polluted. I was really shocked and believed that there just had to be another Donora somewhere. There was not."

    Amazing Book

The book is beyond amazing. Very well written, accessible for a broad readership, and very well researched and documented. It addresses a crucial issue with tremendous medical and public health implications worldwide: the increasing danger that humankind faces from the use of radiofrequency-emitting devices, such as cell phones, which is taking shape as the most important public health crisis of our time.

After reading this excellent book written by Devra Davis, you will learn a lot about published and well-known facts from the scientific literature, facts that have been known, sometimes for decades, but the telecommunication industry does not want you to know them. Some findings described in this book come from as long as 4-5 decades ago, and reveal that radiofrequency, the same type of radiation that is emitted by cell phones, causes serious harm to the human body. The book will reveal how both scientists and the industry have, for decades, known about the adverse effects that radiofrequency causes on the brain. It will tell you how radiofrequency is, in fact, being used in clinical medicine, to allow drugs to penetrate into the brain of cancer patients, where they kill tumor cells. If radiofrequency can be used in this way, to allow medication from the bloodstream to penetrate the brain and treat tumors, imagine what happens when the same radiofrequency allows all the chemicals and toxins from the blood, which are normally kept away from the nervous system, to enter the brain and cause disease!

This book will also tell you how SAR, which is used to measure the absorption of radiation emitted from cell phones, was developed for the adult male who is over 6 feet tall, weighs 200 pounds, and uses the phone for a 6 minute conversation. What happens to males who have a different body type, to women, or to children, is anyone's guess, but it is clear that the they absorb much more radiation than SAR values of the respective phones indicate.

This book is a pillar of public health, and should become an indispensable reference for anyone who is interested in the health and well-being of our generation and of generations to come. After you read it, you will realize that you will need to read it again, and then again. The wealth of information and the evidence that Devra Davis presents in her important book, are something that every human being should share with everyone they know. Buy this book, and recommend it to everyone you know and care about - the information that you will learn is empowering and it will allow you to make the best decisions for your health, and for the health of your family and friends.

MAKES YOU QUESTION YOUR CELL PHONE USAGE!!!!

Just as with the tobacco industry, it appears that the studies which would demonstrate the potential dangers of constant and long-term use have been buried and/or discredited by those who want to sell you a new cell phone.

Devra Davis has done us all a HUGE favor of compiling lots of evidence from studies from the last several decades that all point to the same conclusion - this kind of radiation can harm us. She also reveals the politics behind the cover ups.

People have no clue about radiation until they get sick from it and then start asking questions. Wouldn't it be better to be proactive?
