An Engrossing Story of Family Secrets and a Love for the Ages

When aspiring writer Michael Warner inherits his grandfather's venerable Charleston estate, he settles in to write his first novel. But within the confines of the stately home, he discovers an unpublished manuscript that his grandfather, a literary giant whose novels sold in the millions, had kept hidden from everyone--but which he clearly intended Michael to find. As he delves deep into the exciting tale about spies and sabotage, Michael discovers something that has the power to change not only his future but his past as well.

Laced with suspense and intrigue, The Discovery is a richly woven novel that explores the incredible sacrifices that must be made to forge the love of a lifetime. Author Dan Walsh delivers yet another unique and heartfelt story that will stick with you long after you've turned the last page.

"My wife Norma and I fell in love with Dan's writing after reading his first two novels. I was immediately drawn in by the compelling characters he creates and the relationally driven storylines. His books grab your heart and don't let go until the last page. I look forward to reading every novel Dan writes."--Dr. Gary Smalley, bestselling author and speaker on family relationships

"Thrilling, romantic, and intriguing. In The Discovery, Dan Walsh takes a fascinating sidebar of World War II history and crafts a suspenseful, beautifully written, and deeply satisfying story. This is his best novel yet!"--Sarah Sundin, award-winning author of the Wings of Glory series

"Dan Walsh's novel-within-a-novel is rich with intrigue, history, and romance. Character-driven and wistful without hampering the suspense of the plot's steady pace, The Discovery is a sublime delight that shouldn't be missed."--USA Today

"Yet again, Walsh has crafted a novel so engaging that you will lose all sense of time as he draws you in and makes the reader a part of the story. Based on historical facts, this is the perfect blend of history, suspense, and romance. Walsh's 'book within a book' concept is intriguing. The reader will be reminded that God alone can give us the peace that surpasses all human understanding."--RT Book Reviews, 4½ STARS and TOP PICK

WOW! What a great book. Dan Walsh is a fantastic author. This is my first book to read by D. Walsh..
He just proves that a great romance, mystery can be written without sex scenes or bad language. Keep up the writing for I will be reading your books.

    Fun Read!

This was a fun read. Good suspense and story-telling. Only quibble is lack of historical accuracy in dealing with WWII language and customs.

Best story I have ever read!!!!!

I was not able to stop reading this book. I was so moved by the story and was drawn in so deep that I felt like I was Michael.
**Warning-- do not start reading this book if you have anything important to get done during the next day or two. It is too difficult to stop reading until the book is finished.

    Delicious book!!!

This is my first time reading this very talented author and it will not be my last. I have never given a 5 star rating to a book before, either, but did on this one. This book is not only jam packed with mystery and suspense that kept me turning the pages but it is one that also could be about our own ancestors. This book will appeal to young and old, male and female.

Dan Walsh captures modern-day Charleston and WWII Daytona Beach

Dan Walsh captures modern-day Charleston and WWII Daytona Beach with such a flair that the settings are characters in their own right. Ben and Claire's story is heart-wrenchingly romantic, but believable nonetheless. And I just know Michael and Jenn have an equally romantic life together in store for them - hopefully we'll get to read about it :)

This is an excellent book. You follow as Michael as he reads the unpublished manuscript that his grandfather leaves for him to find. He discovers amazing things. I don't normally like books that spend a lot of time in history or are historicals, but I couldn't put this one down.

Michael Warner’s family history goes no further back than famous author grandfather Gerard Warner. That fact never bothered Michael until his sister, Marilyn, makes a scene at the reading of Gramps’ will.

Then he was exasperated. When Gramps’ literary agent offers a ghost-written book deal for an exclusive biography, Michael gets nervous. He’d grown up both loving and in awe of Gramps, and it seems disrespectful trying to pry information out of the grave. Marilyn says their grandfather promised the secret of their family tree would come out after his death. But do they really want to know?

Michael’s bride, Jenn, suggests he use their inherited wealth and new home in Charleston, Gramps’ estate, to look around, see if there isn’t something he can find about the family while she’s away packing up their Florida apartment. Michael doesn’t need much encouragement and not long after he discovers Gramps’ typewriter case is more than what it appears. Gerard Warner’s life and reputation is left in Michael’s hands. Will he do the right thing?

The Discovery reveals a little-discussed, little-known case of espionage and terrorism in the United States during World War II. Mind-control, loyalty, fear, espionage and collusion would win Hitler new territory, or fail the Third Reich. But which part did Gerard Warner take? Hero to the Reich, or Hero to the US? And why?

An Impossible Love, Gramps’ last unpublished manuscript, can either bond the family or ruin the beloved image of long-time internationally-best-selling author, along with Michael’s dreams and desires to follow in his beloved Grandfather’s writing footsteps.

This is my favorite book of Dan Walsh’s. His style has matured to the point where he can wrap his readers in a soft old comforter and set us in front of a fire and weave a mesmerizing tale of the love of a good woman able to turn the world on an edge. Walsh has become comfortable in his ability to let his characters speak for themselves, even when they’re telling someone else’s story. “Say you’re going to make something of your life. Do something meaningful. Cure some disease. Break some work record. But don’t do it as Ben Coleman or Gerhard…whatever your last name is.”

Good advice for anyone in any age. Walsh is always spot-on with research and life during the era. This book felt less like a report and let us live his charaActers and their discoveries. Both a contemporary love story and historical, Walsh blends today and yesterday in luscious southern charm.
