Description: This book gives clinicians an approach for explaining the diagnosis and treatment options to their patients suffering with migraine headaches.
Purpose: Designed as an aid for teaching patients, this book includes some discussion of physiology, but more in lay terms than in traditional medical terminology.
Audience: The audience includes every clinician who may diagnose and treat patients suffering from migraine headaches.
Features: In keeping with the focus of the book, the initial chapters discuss what a migraine is, the causes, and how to work with patients in accepting the diagnosis, eliminating the risk factors that can precipitate a migraine, and other approaches to treatment. A number of chapters cover specific nonpharmacological treatments and have patient handouts for migraines. There is a link to an electronic version of the book that is not included in the price. The book states that there are videos available, but they were not accessible at the website.
Assessment: This is an exceptional teaching aid for clinicians to help their patients with migraines mitigate the disruptions that migraines can cause. As such, it is a valuable addition to the primary care clinician's library.
