Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Joseph J Cullen, MD (University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics)
Description: This is an outstanding compilation of topics by leading experts in the field of surgical diseases of the pancreas.
Purpose: Pancreatitis and pancreatic neoplasms are the main subjects and the authors do an excellent job in meeting the objectives in these areas. In addition, the editors have included chapters on pancreatic trauma and pancreatic transplantation, which really enhance this book. The three editors are recognized experts in surgery for pancreatic disease and their collective experience is unmatched.
Audience: I would recommend this to any surgical resident or practicing surgeon with an interest in pancreatic disease. In addition, gastroenterologists, pathologists, and even radiologists with an interest in pancreatic disease would find this helpful.
Features: What sets this book apart from others is the current, up-to-date information that is presented and, most importantly, the figures, tables, and artwork. Perhaps in the second edition the editors could be convinced to add a CD-ROM as other books have done.
Assessment: The editors should really be commended for this book and its outstanding artwork.
