Martin was a sociopath for sure and hawtorne the classic enabler. I waited for and never got an overview of Martin's history and strange career. In her self absorbtion she seems not to get that he is why we read her book and that might have been the way for her to triumph at last. That said, the very rawness of this book often provides a kind of proof of its veracity.  Buy the book only if you are interested in the love life of martin.  Be prepared to skim.
