Overview

Walter Elias "Walt" Disney - artist, entrepreneur, innovator, filmmaker, and theme-park impresario - gave birth to a sprawling entertainment enterprise that, in the half-century since his death in 1966, remains a fixture in the culture unlike any other. A titan of the American Century, Walt Disney was also one of its most contradictory figures. A genius who got only as far as the ninth grade, he seemed to be many things other than what he really was. One of Hollywood's most successful men, he played polo on the weekends but otherwise shunned any form of socializing, driving himself home from work each night in his Packard roadster in time to play with his children. At the peak of his career, he was known to millions of Americans as the smiling, avuncular man with the slicked hair, pencil-thin mustache, and gentle voice who introduced the most wholesome show on television every Sunday evening - and to the people who worked for him as a fiery and impatient man who believed the only way to do anything was his way. Walt Disney was, in short, quite a story.

American Genius This well-written book tells the life story of one of America's greatest creative geniuses. It paints a vivid portrait of the man - warts and all. He was a case study in contradictions, and it was his contradictory nature that made his extraordinary accomplishments possible. Highly recommended.

Disney by Rees Quinn is an excellent book. Rather than painting a feel good picture of Walt Disney, Rees explores the contrasting aspects of his personality. On the one hand Walt Disney never got through high school yet he became one of the most successful businessmen in Hollywood (or in the world for that matter). On the one hand he was a loving father, hurrying home from the office to play with his children. On the other hand he was a domineering boss at work, dead set that his way was the only way. The book is very well researched and a fast read.

This was a quick read and a good overview of the life of a man who was so influential in what we know as entertainment today. There were times where I would have liked more depth, but there are plenty of other longer biographies to fill in some of the missing pieces. This is a great one to start with, at any rate. One of the only negatives I can say is that there seemed to be a lot of typos, which I find very distracting while I read. Otherwise it was an enjoyable, quick read.

Disney is a very well written book about the life of visionary Walt Disney that proves greatly interesting. The story describes Disney’s life at the office and at home. The contrast is amazing. Rees Quinn has done an excellent job researching the book and delivers the information in a very entertaining and educational fashion.

Very dry. Seemed like something I wrote when I was in middle school.

Have you ever had the feeling of wanting to be a demigod? Now you can! Go to the demigod camp at 'Athenian Constitution' first result to meet the other campers! Don't be afraid to start socializing right away, see you there!

A great overview of the life of DIsney. Not as in-depth as I had hoped... but, knowing Walt was a private man, I was pleasntly surprised by the insight it provided knowing he valued his privacy and the boundaries he was able to establish to create the persona the world today still regards in awe.

A RATHER disjointed snapshot-likelook at a major icon. Overall thoroughly unsatisfying. Don'tbother with it!

Rees Quinn did a great job putting together the story of the man who created an empire that may now have exceeded his own expectations! Walt Disney is an icon today, but it's interesting to see he was also a man of many talents, visions, and passions! This was a fun read!

While a short read, it is a very good book for anyone who is fascinated by how one man can and did have such a huge impact on our culture worldwide.  It's staggering to think of.

Is this book a biography or auto biography? And how many pages long is it?
