Overview

Packing just as much punch as Disney’s Greatest, Volume 1, this collection of 20 classic songs from the Disney empire shines the light on the musical side of the Magic Kingdom. The upbeat songs here -- from The Lion King's "Hakuna Matata" to The Jungle Book’s "Bare Necessities," will animate the hearts, minds, and feet of music fans of all ages. And the ballads -- from Snow White’s "Someday My Prince Will Come" to Tarzan’s Phil Collins-penned "You’ll Be in My Heart" -- are spun of melodic gold. Not all the songs here are from films: "The Mickey Mouse March" comes courtesy of TV’s Mickey Mouse Club, while the unifying anthem "It’s a Small World After All" was written by Richard and Robert Sherman for the Disney exhibit at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York. All this and an insightful essay from film guru Leonard Maltin make for a delightful package.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Disney's Greatest, Vol. 2 collects more classic songs from Disney's songbook, including "Mickey Mouse March" from the original Mickey Mouse Club TV show, "The Ballad of Davy Crockett," "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast, and "Bare Necessities" from The Jungle Book. Pocahontas' "Colors of the Wind," The Lion King's "Hakuna Matata," Snow White's "Some Day My Prince Will Come," and Cinderella's "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes" are some of the many highlights from this collection, which, like the first volume, is arranged in a loose reverse chronological order. As with Vol. 1, a little more mixing and matching of sounds and eras would have been interesting, but nevertheless, Disney's Greatest, Vol. 2 delivers exactly what its title promises.

I was very happy to hear some of my favorite tunes sung and orchestrated so well. This is a very good recording and well suited for toddlers to oldies. The BARE NECESSITIES, ITS A SMALL WORLD among others are really fun to listen to. This is only a good buy!
