Cut & Run Series Book Four - Sequel to Fish & Chips

Baltimore, Maryland, is a city in alarming distress. Rising violence is fanning the flames of public outrage, and all law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are catching blame. Thus the FBI's latest ideas to improve public relations: a municipal softball league and workshops for community leaders. But the new commitments just mean more time Special Agents Ty Grady and Zane Garrett have to spend apart when they're happily exploring how to be more than by-the-book partners.

Then the latest spate of crime explodes in their faces-literally-throwing the city, the Bureau, and Ty and Zane's volatile partnership both in and out of the office into chaos. They're hip-deep in trouble, trying to track down bombers and bank robbers in the dark with very few clues, and the only way to reach the light at the end of the tunnel together requires Ty and Zane to close their eyes and trust each other to the fiery end.

My Review: I made a mistake here. I didn't write this review immediately after reading this book...instead I jumped into Warrior's Cross then Book #5....I think you will understand and forgive me for that if I tell you that this book ends on an awful cliffhanger and I couldn't wait to see where Ty & Zane were going next. Because honestly, Ty & Zane go through the wringer in this book...OMG, I was ready to curl up into a little ball and cry after finishing this one. There are moments in this book between Ty & Zane that make you want to weep with the emotion in them, but there are others that just make you want to hit something. I could tell you about Zane's blindness in this one that changes everyone's perceptions. *gah* I wanted to hug Zane and wanted to slug Ty many times here. But then there is the dance scene which makes me misty just thinking about it. I could tell you about Ty's friend Nick who comes for a visit and the scenes here that made me feel literally sick. Then there's the scene in the crypt which just made me want to hug Ty. This absolutely is a book which built my heart up and then broke it...over and over again. (What is it about book #4's in series???) This is a book which brings Ty and Zane together more, but you actually see them apart more than you have in any of the other books. You get to see more insight into their psyche's and what they are going through and I liked that. I love these guys, but sometimes they are just such idiots when it comes to each other. But regardless, I adore these books. I adore these characters. I adore how messed up they are as individuals, but how good they are together. These are the perfect romantic characters...they are so much better together than they are apart. They make each other become better people and their passion is a beautiful extension of that. *sigh* Ty and Zane....

This is the 4th book in the Cut & Run series.  Ty Grady and Zane Garrett continue to learn about each other, their partnership and the world around them.     In this book, they are back assigned in Baltimore, MD.  While there are riots going on in the city, many people hating on the law enforcement for not taking a more aggressive approach on the violence throughout the city.  Ty makes a public statement to a member of the press before he can suppress it.  He and Zane, in turn, become the public face of the FBI.   Ty is trying to keep from going crazy, since his relationship with Zane is more intense than ever.  He keeps busy with work, friends, sports and more.  When he and Zane do have time together it is all he wants.  Still he longs for the words he wishes to hear.   Zane learns even more about his partner in this book.  More about women from his past, the Recon Marines from his past, and more.  There is a bank robber and bomber loose int he city and so many people counting on them to help solve this case.   Wow!  So much to this story, I wish I could tell all.  Such a great series and I know I have said this before... but absolutely true - could NOT put it down!

Summary Divide and Conquer by Madeleine Urban and Abigail Roux is the fourth book in the Cut and Run series. While it might work as a stand alone book, reading the previous books in the series is recommended. FBI agents Ty Grady and Zane Garrett tackle bombers and bank robbers this time while continuing to pursue a clandestine personal relationship. These characters work because they are truly men with all the emotional inhibitions real men often have. The authors don't automatically give Ty or Zane vaginas just because they're gay men. The thriller part of the story is also fully developed and riveting. Divide and Conquer is more than worth $5-7 for which most booksellers are selling the ebook, and in fact worth the $12+ which the paperback costs. Fantasy World Divide and Conquer is set in a very unsettled version of Baltimore. The characters and issues seem like they are right out of a current news report. Tingle Factor This is a male/male romance with full physical details. When Ty and Zane get busy, the sparks fly. They are hot together and readers will wish they could watch the action up close and personal. Romance This is not a romance novel so while there are a few tender moments, it is not the main focus of the story. These are men who are more comfortable with guns than emotions. Drama This is a true thriller with chases, explosions, and heroes in danger. This is not recommended bedtime reading due to anticipated adrenaline rushes. Hero #1 Zane Garrett is reformed alcoholic still trying to overcome the trauma of his wife's death 6 years ago. He's gone from a chemically enhanced undercover agent to a stick up his ass, exemplary model of FBI behavior. Zane is trying to come to grips with his feelings for his partner, Ty, and with personal tragedy from his latest case. Hero #2 Ty Grady is a West Virginia wild man who seems barely tamed despite his tenure in the Marines. He's a delight to read because you never know what crazy thing he is going to do or say next. He loves his partner, Zane, and understands that Zane is just as repressed as he is wild. Ty takes their latest case personally, and goes after the criminals with everything he has while trying to also care for an injured Zane.

A trip home to meet Ty's family should be a fairly laid-back vacation, but Zane never reckoned on Earl and Deacon and their idea of a week in the mountains. Of course, then there were the people who kept shooting at them and tying them up, and the fact that they are so far into the West Virginia hills that there is nobody who would be able to come to their air. Just another day in paradise...
