In 1994, Caetano Veloso released the Cd Fina estampa, singing boleros. The huge success of that album conduced him to conceive the live show, where this album was recorded. In magnificent acoustic orchestral arrangements where there is room for minimalistic performances, accompanied by a single pandeiro or violão and even alla capella, he covers sambas, boleros, valses, march, bossa nova and samba de gafieira. João Gilberto/Antônio C. Martins interpreted in the gafieira style, the fundamental bolero "La barca" in a sensitive violão rendition, the vanguardist "O pulsar" written together with the concrete poet Augusto de Campos, and the tropicalist "Soy loco por ti, America" Gilberto Gil/Capinam.

It doesn't get any better than this!

I am in love with this collection. This disc was actually my introduction to Veloso, and I've since heard all of his work, but this is still my go-to and by far my favorite. His voice is an art-form in intself. Veloso singing Lamento Borincano is like a religious experience and it's on here. And then there's Aye, Amor!, in which his voice is flawless. I highly recommend buying the DVD version to go along with the CD. Stunning!

    Latin American Music from heaven

This is a great CD. It is the live version of Fina Estampa from the year before. It is, believe or not, still better than the studio version. In this live version lyrics in portuguese (from the best strain of the brazilian music) were included. In time, although it is a heavenly CD, the correct title is Fina Estampa, not Divina estampa.
