Had it been a lowlife perp with his finger on the trigger, the situation might have been easier to swallow. But it wasn't a perp. He forced a calm that he didn't feel into his voice. "You should see someone about this."
Zeke Duncun, his partner for the last two months, nudged Chase with the gun. Chase bumped against the steel ledge of the bridge. A good forty feet below, the slow ripples of the lake splashed against shore. He stared in the direction of the '61 Bellaire Chevy parked a half block down the street, which had brought him to death's door. Hip-hop music blared from the souped-up Chevy's stereo. Big Bruno, the driver, a known street dealer and all-around bad guy, danced outside it, his feet shuffling to the beat, his head bobbing in and out like a turtle.
Chase motioned toward Bruno, hoping to buy a few more minutes to figure out how to get his ass out of this jam. "Such talent and he's wasting his life selling drugs. What gives?"
"Where's the damn book?" Zeke asked, the sun glinting off his receding hairline.
What book? Chase mentally filed that piece of info to consider later. "Now you're gritting your teeth. That's another sign of rage syndrome."
The barrel pressed cold against Chase's temple. Panic roiled in his stomach, hitting a ten on the Richter scale of serious emotional upheaval. He didn't have time to analyze it. Nor would he give Zeke the pleasure of seeing his fear.
Zeke's nostrils flared. "Wanting to die is one thing, but you disappoint me. I thought you'd at least care about your fellow officer Stokes. All it took was one bullet."
"He ate my last cherry-filled donut last week." Chase shrugged, appearing cool on the outside, but inside ... If Stokes was really dead, he had two little boys who, thanks to Zeke, would grow up without a father. "And you know how much I love those donuts." It took everything Chase had not to go for Zeke's throat, rip out his vocal cords, and tie them in a bow around his freaking neck. Chase resisted, knowing Zeke wanted him to lose control and make a foolish move so he could find the motivation to pull the trigger.
Chase, on the other hand, needed just a few sane seconds to make sure the move he made wasn't foolish. He needed a plan that excluded the lake below, a bullet, or another confrontation with dancing Bruno. The big man had given Chase a few solid blows to the ribs while forcing him into the car earlier. What Chase needed was to reach the gun Bruno had overlooked, the one strapped to his ankle.
Zeke sneered. "You know what they'll say, don't you? You were just another Houston cop gone bad. Lost your wife and your sense of justice. And I'll be the guy who took you down after I saw you kill Stokes. Of course, I'll take it hard."
"Do you grind your teeth at night, too?" Acid burned Chase's stomach. "That's bad for your overbite."
"You think you're funny?" Zeke jammed his gun into Chase's cheek. "Laugh if you want, but I've already set this up. After an anonymous tip, the captain found that missing cocaine under your bed. I was told by IA to bring you in. What a pity that you turned on me and I had to shoot." Zeke's mouth pinched and creased white. "I can make this easy or hard. What do you want? I let Stokes go fast. One to the heart was all it took."
Chase held out his hands, hoping his rage didn't make them tremble. "Can you give me a second? I just hate making spur-of-the-moment decisions."
A glint of hundred-proof evil flashed in his partner's eyes. Time had run out.
Chase knocked Zeke's hand to the right. The gun fired, the bullet shattering one of the Chevy's headlights. Bruno's dance routine ended. "My car!" All three-hundred-plus pounds of the man came barreling at them. Thankfully, Bruno danced better than he barreled. The man ran like a drunk elephant.
Chase slammed Zeke's wrist into the bridge's steel rail. Seeing his gun hit the pavement brought a flash of relief, then Chase spotted Bruno digging into his pants. The man had either serious jock itch or his own gun, and Chase would put his bet on the gun.
Without enough time to go for his own weapon, Chase shoved Zeke down and took his only out. Not one that he felt particularly happy about either. He dove off the bridge, and the hot pain of a bullet exploded through his shoulder right before he smacked into the water below.
"We're not discussing your sex life. You don't have a sex life," her mother said, her tone a mix of humor and snideness.
"I'm not talking about this." Lacy glanced at the flat-screen sixty-inch television left on for the cat's entertainment. While the TV remained on mute, an anchorwoman stood in front of the local police station and a picture of a man's face, not an altogether unpleasant face, took up half of the screen. The words Armed and Dangerous? appeared beneath the picture. Lacy started to hit the volume when she heard frantic barking in the backyard.
"It's not natural!" her mother insisted.

Although I really liked the characters & the plot, this book is an editor's NIGHTMARE!!! There are TONS of typo's & grammatical errors that make the book hard to read. The chapter's & paragraphs within the chapters were not easily identified. I think that is book has a lot of potential...I just wish it would have been through SEVERAL beta readers!!! =)
So, the best that I can say is...

I enjoyed this. A quick read, kept my interest. I loved the animal attention...too cute. I did not like the descriptive sex scenes, so I just "fast forward" through them.
I found the switching of characters/locations within the same chapter (almost the same paragraph) to be a bit odd.

It's worth the dollar if you are looking for some romance and laughs. It also has so HOT moments in it.
The downside: It really doesn't have good transitions.

I am usually pretty easy to please with my book choices, i wish i listened to the other reviews! Many typos, story shifts to much, characters are just ok. Not impressed at all. I am moving on to another selection now after only suffering through about 70 pages. I kept hoping to get into it. Sorry but i will never purchase another book from her. Even for .99 not worth the money....

This is the best new book of the year. If you like humor, romance, and suspense, you need this one. It has all three. The plot is fast paced, the characters likeable, and the outcome so satisfying. I just hope Christie Craig is a fast writer. She will be in real demand after readers read this one.

This is my kind of book! Suspenseful story with lots of humor and a little romance to spice things up a little. Not gross and discusting sex, just spicy! The humor keep you wanting to read. Definately read the other 2 in the series. You won't regret it!

## Holy crap! This book was FABULOUS. I absolutely loved it. The story was superb, the dialogue witty and the sex was hot! I adored the heroine. She was beautiful, lovable, funny and kind. And the hero was sincere, sweet and funny. OMG and so very hot. I usually hate books that include dead wives, but this one was handled very well. This story really has everything: humor (I laughed out loud so many times), romance, suspense and i even cried at one point. A must read for sure. Note to author: write faster please

I have been searching for a new author and I have perused the shelves and many times read the blurb of Christie Craig's books, hesitated and kept searching. I saw one of her books for free for a limited time and was happy for the chance to explore this author. I love this author. Her blend of sisterhood, romance, humor and slapstick propelled to buy and read all her books. Have already read two in 24 hours and on to the third. Thanks for the laughs Christie Craig.

I was looking for light summer reading. Craig came highly recommended on the BN reviews. I have no idea why. Formulaic, slow, predictable, stock characters, annoying point of view (omniscience works rarely), way too much of the author's preferences for everything from favorite breakfast to steak doneness to pets. Even in a beach read, I expect some decent writing and engaging characters. Craig was touted as another Janet Evanovich; maybe when Evanovich was in high school! I even read another of Craig's, remembering how Grisham's The Firm was so much better written than A Time to Kill (although even A Time to Kill had a great plot), trying to give her a little time to improve. Not. And don't even get me started on the sex scenes! TMI! Never again will I read Craig.

I truly adored this book. It was so cute, and a bit kinky but once you pick it up you will literally not be able to put it back down. I would recommend this to anyone EXCEPT your mother. ;-)

Of course Chase will not be ably to defend himself in court, with his peers or the media as he will be dead and Zeke a hero-------------- Chase manages to escape, but not before Zeke¿s ally drug dealer Bruno shoots him in the shoulder. Fabio the dog with reindeer ears takes Chase home. The canine¿s owner photographer Lacy Maguire wants nothing to do with men due to a cheating ex, but she has no choice as Chase holds her hostage while Fabio turns traitor and likes the hunk. Soon Chase convinces Lacy he is innocent and as they fall in love, she decides to abet his efforts to prove he is clean and Zeke is a dirty homicidal cop---------------- Romantic suspense fans will appreciate the fast-paced DIVORCED, DESPERATE AND DELICIOUS in which the story line effortlessly switches back and forth between a tense drama and lighthearted sexual banter. Lacy Maguire has sworn off men. She's divorced -- her husband cheated on her, doing his secretary in an elevator and the video ended up on the 'net. And she doesn't want to end up like her six-times divorced mother. So she's happy with her animals, her friends, and her job as a photographer. That is until her dog drags in a wounded and alleged dirty cop, Chase Kelly, who promptly handcuffs her to the bed so he can try to figure out where his life and his career went wrong and his current partner wants to frame him for all kinds of things. Being barricaded in a house with a sexy cop is not what she needs. For her sex means marriage. There's no two ways about that, according to her heart. Chase is immediately attracted to this beautiful woman, even though she seems rather crazy with animals dressed up in Christmas outfits, holiday music playing, and talking appliances. Oh, yeah, and a mother who is a handful. But the more time he spends with her, the more he wants her. And once he has her, once will never be enough. It's time for him to rejoin the living after living like a maniac on the job in the two years since his wife died, and Lacy is the one to help him do that. This book is a laugh-out-loud good time! The characters are all quirky and wonderful, especially the secondary characters. The scenes flow seamlessly, the writing is simply terrific. If you like to laugh when you read, you need to read this book!

A list of men are after Lacy and Chase doesn¿t like it one bit, but he has to catch a killer before he can explore his relationship with Lacy, Miss Divorced, Desperate and Delicious. Christie Craig has written a story with memorable characters that will make you laugh and keep turning the pages. I¿m eagerly looking forward to reading more of Christie Craig¿s books. Funny, hot and suspenseful this story has it all. Take my advice, pick up a book by Christie Craig, it will be a delicious treat.
