Overview

Tina Swithin was swept off her feet by a modern day Prince Charming and married him one year later. Tina soon discovered that there was something seriously wrong with her fairytale. The marriage was filled with lies, deception, fraud and many tears. Tina was left in an utter state of confusion. This wasn't the man that she married...or was it? Tina first heard the term, Narcissistic Personality Disorder from her therapist in 2008 but quickly dismissed the notion that something could be wrong with her husband. It took several years for Tina to begin researching the disorder and suddenly, the past ten years of her life made complete sense. Tina soon discovered that there is only one thing more difficult than being married to a narcissist and that is divorcing a narcissist.

In her book, Tina will explain how a smart, independent woman can fall prey to a narcissistic man. Tina discusses the red flag reflections that she chose to ignore while dating and during the marriage. Tina acted as her own attorney in an extremely high-conflict divorce and she will share the strategies that helped her to navigate through this battle while maintaining her sanity and sense of humor. Tina will help you to feel less alone in your journey and will assure you that there is light at the end of the tunnel no matter how dark things are right now.

A special bonus: The foreword to Divorcing a Narcissist is written by world renowned Psychiatrist, Dr. Carole Lieberman, M.D., M.P.H.

I have now read this book from cover to cover- twice. I feel like I am reading my own life story. Tina seemed to find the exact words that describe my own journey. I am often left struggling for a way to describe my marriage, divorce and custody battle -- and yet no one understands. This book has allowed me to reflect, learn, grow and heal-- it has also given me invaluable tools for my own custody battle which is approaching its sixth year in April.

For the first time in six years, I feel that I am prepared to enter the war zone of court because I have Tina's words of wisdom and insight into narcissism. My ex-husband was diagnosed with NPD in 2007 and it has taken me five years to connect with Tina's blog and truly understand what I am dealing with. This book and Tina's blog has literally changed my life-- every law student should be required to read this book before entering the Family Court System and every Judge should have ongoing education on this disorder and the ensuing toxicity that leaks into the courtroom.

I have purchased this book for myself, my parents and my own attorney and will continue to help Tina by spreading the word about her mission to bring change to our Family Court System. Our children all deserve peace-- I feel that this book is the platform for change which is long overdue.

I found Tina's blog and I had an immediate emotional reaction, it was the first time that I felt like I was not alone. What I had experienced did not mean I was crazy... I was tricked. This is a must read for anyone who is separating from, divorcing or still in court conflict with a narcissist. Tina is able to share her experience in a way that gives us all a voice. When trying to explain the dysfunction of my divorce & custody battle I am usually not able to find the right words or where to being to truly express myself. I felt like Tina had true insight of the hell I lived.

This book was recommended to me by a counselor at a domestic violence support group and the timing could not have been better. While this book is not about domestic violence, Tina's story paralleled much of my story and I connected deeply with her struggles in a high-conflict divorce and the very flawed court system. This book was recommended when I was feeling very low and on the verge of giving up and has ignited my desire to fight for my daughter. Not only has Tina inspired me to fight for my daughter against an inept court system but she has motivated me to speak out and demand change. I now have a desire to be a part of that change and hope to enter law school in the next two years. In the meantime, I just signed up for my first paralegal class to kick-start my journey.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is going through a difficult divorce-- narcissist or no narcissist. I wish that I could buy a copy for every college-age girl because it could educate and save them from years of heartache.

Tina: if you are reading this, thank you! My life course has shifted due to your bravery. "BA"

Excellent Book even if you are unsure if the person is actually a narcissist

This book is excellent. If you are sure the person is a narcissist, this book will speak to you. If not, there are still ideas and feelings that, going through a divorce, will help you. Tina Swithin shares insightful information on her realization of the type of man she'd been married to. Although her story may not be exactly like the person reading the book, her thoughts, feelings, and actions are definetely something one can identify with when dealing with this type of person.
