In fact, "Iris" -- their contribution to the City of Angels soundtrack and lead single for their sixth album, Dizzy Up the Girl -- is a virtual rewrite of "Name." The funny thing is, where most college rock bands of the Bush era sounded awkward as mainstream rockers, the Goo Goo Dolls actually sound better as a mainstream band, partially because they were hardly underground in the first place. Like a less mannered and conflicted Let Your Dim Light Shine-era Soul Asylum, the trio balances hard rockers with ballads. The difference is, they enjoy the mainstreaming of their music and respond with one of their catchiest sets of songs. There's nothing new on the record apart from their willingness to polish their music so it reaches the widest audience. That will alienate whatever hardcore followers they have left, but that attitude will likely please anyone brought aboard with "Name" and "Iris."

    Best of the Goo Goo Dolls

    The Goo Goo Dolls are one of my favorite bands, and I consider this album their best! Every single track on this CD just plain rocks especially my favorites: Broadway, Slide, Iris, Black Balloon, Hate This Place, and All Eyes on Me. I love this album so much, and anyone who likes good rock & roll will too!

    Goo Goo Dolls are amazing

    These guys are awesome, they're music is simply deep, but I don't have their album 'Dizzy up the Girl' which is a bummer, but yeh bye

    They got me into ROCK

    John Rzeznik has what I call writing talent. The tunes are great, the interaction of the instruments with each other and the voice is amazing, and the lyrics are sensitive and thoughtful. They are the only band I have heard who uses polyphonic textures in their music. Rock on Dolls.

    Dizzied Up

    I absolutely love this album! I think it is the best one the dolls have released so far. This album is much deeper and darker then their others with songs like "Slide" about a young girl and her boyfriend and she's deciding wether or not to have an abortion. Then there is "Black Balloon" about someone's heroine addiction. I'm not trying to scare anybody off. I don't get depressed listening to these subjects or feel sad in any way. It's nice to have a CD that isn't full of lovey-dovey pop songs. These songs are about real, everyday issues that some people can relate to and the way they are written is just phenominal. I don't think there is a song writer out there that can compare with John Rzeznik.

    My Favorite

    This is the best CD of all of the Goo Goo Doll's it totally rocks. ive had it since it came out and still have not grown tired of the songs, this is a CD you most definatly have to sing to and is a must have, especially if you're a fan!

    wow, this is the best album.. wow..

    i absolutely love the goo goo dolls! this album truly shows off how much talent they have. their songs range from the beautiful ballads such as black balloon and iris, all the way to the more pop oriented songs such as slide and broadway. seriously, if you're considering buying this cd, you should most definitely buy it! i guarentee you'll love it as much as i do!

    Their best album yet.

    This cd rocks! It has so many good songs like ''Dizzy'', ''Black Balloon'', ''Slide'', ''Broadway'', ''Iris'', and ''January Friend.'' Definitely a step up from their last album.

    THE BEST CD EVER!!

    I bought this CD just because I really liked the song ''Iris'', but it turned out I also knew ''broadway'' and ''slide'' and just didn't know they were by this group...this is the best CD I've ever owned! I really like all of the songs...just thought I would share that :)

    raw emotion and power

    this is not just an album, it's an experience. a roller-coaster ride of emotion and sentiment. after you listen, you will never be the same. the best songwriting since lennon and westerburg. just lay there in the middle of the floor and let it course through your veins. these boys are everything they were in 1987 and much more.

    Punk band????

    What happened to the Goo-Goo Dolls I saw open up for Gang Green in the late 80's? This is a good cd...if you like pop. Not so good if you were a fan of their earlier work.

    2 Thumbs Up!

    I adore this CD! Especially All Eyes on Me. The hard but not too hard style is right where I want it and it is a clean CD(no trash talking) with deep lyrics. Also: a good mix of fast and slow songs. Two thumbs up for 'Dizzy Up the Girl'.

    This CD is SO WORTH IT

    I didn't even know what I was doing when I bought this CD. I'd only heard ''Iris,'' & I didn't even like it that much because they were playing it so often on the radio. But this is definitely the best CD I own now. I went back to listen to some of their older stuff & I don't think they've toned down all that much. It sounds more clean now, I think. They are very good at creating hooks that make you want to hear the songs again & again. The best tracks are ''Dizzy,'' ''Slide,'' ''Bulletproof,'' ''All Eyes on Me,'' & of course, ''Iris.'' Get this CD, it's so totally worth it.

    Awesome!!!

    This CD rules. The four best songs are Slide, Broadway, Hate This Place, and most definately, Iris. It doesn't get any better than this, and if it does, it'll be a blow-out.

    what a great album!!

    This is one of my favourite abums (along with Matchbox 20 - Yourself or someone like you). I love the songs Iris, Black Balloon, Broadway and Slide. Although all the songs are great, I much prefer the voice of John Rzeznik than Robby T. Come over to Britain and I'm sure you'll get way more fans. Go and buy this 'must-have' album now!!!

    Best CD I own

    This is the best cd I own. Goo's are extremely talented... lyrics are great, they are great artists, and even though the songs are kinda slow, this is a great cd and totally worth getting! I love all the songs (especially Broadway and Acoustic #3) A GREAT GIFT TO EVERYONE!

    Songs that will become a part of you

    Dizzy Up the Girl is the best album I have listened to in a long, long time. They combine a little bit of rock, metal, and smooth classical to make songs that will touch your soul. The lyrics are even more intriguing. Overall, the Goo Goo Dolls have put into words and music feelings we all feel, but don't always know how to express.

    The Greatest CD Ever

    This is by far, the best CD that I own. I listen to it non-stop. I love the music, and the lyrics, the Goo Goo Dolls really show their talent in this one. After attending their concert, I loved the songs even more. I would recommend this CD to anyone and everyone!! It is the best!

    BUY THIS CD!!!

    Okay look...go buy this damn CD. You won't regret it!!! All the songs are soooo great! Read the lyrics, and if you don't fall in love with this band, sorry, but you don't deserve to live. They are sooo great! I've never heard a band put all MY emotions into their songs!
