Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Beginning with her parents' legendary union, this pictorial biography of Princess Diana discloses truths about each stage of her life—and her death. From her fanciful childhood to her fun-loving college years, Diana's life flashes before readers' eyes in bright, clear photographs. Home, college, friends, and volunteer activities are described and depicted. Little-known facts about Diana's eventful but deeply fulfilling life are presented for research, interest, and entertainment. Her story continues through engagement, marriage, and family experiences. No fairy tale ends as tragically as hers, though. Delicately and factually revealed, the details of her divorce and death are explained. However, the "happily ever after" is also shared; various humanitarian aid projects continue even without Diana's inspiring involvement. This excellent biography provides over one hundred pages of vivid color photos, a timeline, and a list of related sources for further study. One of several DK photobiographies of timeless heroes, this tasteful revelation of Princess Diana is a treasured selection for young historians or library collections. 2006, DK Publishing, Ages 10 up.

KLIATT
A handsome photomontage of a complex life, Mattern's biography follows Diana from childhood and kindergarten teaching to royal princess. Sidebars introduce such crucial terms as landmines, inheritance, and tabloids, the seedy journalism that turned her life into a soap opera. The text balances the wide variance in public acclaim and climaxes with the world's embrace of Diana as a martyred benefactor of AIDS victims and of maimed and homeless children. Tasteful commentary covers the shunning of Diana by the royal family and Diana's increasing fame after her death. KLIATT Codes: J—Recommended for junior high school students. 2006, DK, 128p. illus. bibliog. index., Ages 12 to 15.
