The Eyewitness Travel Guides are the most comprehensive and informative that I have found and used. The research is impeccable and the recommendations right on. While the book is heavy to pack and carry, it is well worth the effort. The 2010 guide seems a bit more compact. I enjoy the history and the concise language hints, plus the remarks concerning regional produce and foods are excellent. We have also tried several of the small hotels and restaurants and were pleased. This will be my 8th trip to Italy and I look forward to using the most recent edition.

Despite its size, this is still the best guide series around. I see more and more people with this book when I travel. It's got guided walks, off the beaten track ideas, detailed pictures and descriptions of every monument and area you can imagine, etc. The maps are a bit difficult as i would like to have a large city map available, but the maps by area are great for finding your way around specific areas. The transportation information is also very good. Get over its size and get this book.

I travel quite a bit and generally try to use Eyewitness whenever I am able to do so. My only caveat is the weight of the book. In these times, weight is very important. Whether one is carrying the guide for use daily while traveling, or as a reference during the trip. It is a rather weighty book! I generally end up copying only the pages that I feel I need and leaving to book at home.

This book is super. There are many illustrations and it surely gives you a good idea of what is in the area. This is an easy to read and follow book.

I'm going to Italy with my friends for 10 days this April and I wanted to really research what we were going to see. I was given this guidebook from my Aunt for my birthday last summer and I was unsure about it since it was from Eyewitness and all I knew Eyewitness from were those non-fiction books I used to read when I was five. Turns out, this book is excellent! There's so many pictures, maps and diagrams and everythings really colorful. Things are also very readable and not thrown together too. I found out so much with this book. I highly reccomend it.

Great picture and book, but too heavy for travel.
