I find this NYC guide quite handy. It is one of the few guides that has The Cloisters in New York City listed, as well as diagrams and maps of many of the places one wants to visit such as parks and museums, and includes the different boroughs of New York City. I am a native New Yorker, and there is plenty to see in New York City. This guide has much listed--it may not contain everything, but it includes much more than most other NYC guides, and it is well illustrated.

The B&N listing says that this is the 2010 edition, but since that is not due out for several months, buyers in 2009 will probably get the 2006 edition. I have no idea what changes the next edition will have (probably mostly restaurant updates?), but travelers to New York should not shy away from the 2006 edition. This series is excellent in describing neighborhoods, architectural and city history, and attractions. I'm a New Yorker again and still appreciating this book. The illustrations are wonderful, the great glory of the series. The series always includes practical info for travelers; my experience with the London, San Francisco, and Dublin DK books is that no other guide is needed.

A must have if you are visiting New York for the very first time. Easy to understand, organized, and very informative. I was able to get around easily and see everything I had hoped to visit in a limited amount of time.

Eyewitness Travel books are the best travel books on the market. I have quite a few for different cities and countries. The very helpful hints, places not to be missed are fantastic. The layouts for museums are great so easy to get all the necessary facts. The are the only books I buy for travel.
